Gina Carano Mandalorian

Following months of controversial social media posts, MMA fighter-turned-Star Wars actress Gina Carano was promptly fired from The Mandalorian last week. The news comes mere months after Lucasfilm released its ramped-up Star Wars schedule, cluing fans into what they may be planning without giving too much away. Carano was supposedly part of those plans, but not anymore. Now, though, we’re getting word that her character, Cara Dune, may actually stick around without her.

We Got This Covered reports that Disney is currently searching for Gina Carano’s replacement. Nothing has been finalized or even confirmed, but the publication maintains that their source for this tidbit is the same person who leaked the news to them that Luke Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano would be showing up at some point in the season. Obviously, those bits of news turned out to be true, but it’s important to take this with a grain of salt for now. Until it is confirmed, treat this as a rumor.

Those who have seen both seasons of The Mandalorian know that Gina Carano has played a major role in the restoration of the post-Empire galaxy. She was scheduled to appear in Rangers of the New Republic, but now that she has left Star Wars, it is unclear if Cara Dune will make a comeback or even a cameo. The showrunners may just write her out and off-handedly mention that her shuttle exploded on the way to go recapture Bill Burr’s Migs Mayfield for shenanigans we don’t know of yet. Or something like that.

Even though Gina Carano has officially left the Star Wars universe, she already has big plans for how she is going to stay on the public’s radar and do something about which she is passionate. She is currently set to make a movie with The Daily Wire‘s Ben Shapiro, one that is only going to be made available to The Daily Wire fans/subscribers.

Gina Carano’s firing came after the actress posted incendiary tweets presumably to spark discussion. Unfortunately, all this did was get her kicked out of Star Wars faster. Lucasfilm had supposedly been wanting to fire her for months, but a decision that big could have consequences not just for their planned narratives but for their plans in general. Carano’s character was growing in both popularity and prominence before last week, so it is probable that the decision to boot her from their plans was not done or taken lightly.

It is interesting that Disney and Lucasfilm are reportedly wanting Cara Dune to stick around but Gina Carano to make herself scarce. That likely indicates an expanded role for the character. Maybe she is secretly the star of Rangers of the New Republic? As previously mentioned, none of this is confirmed but is worth exploring all the same.

Up next for Star Wars fans is The Bad Batch, the spin-off to The Clone Wars that’s scheduled for release this year. After that, it will be time for The Book of Boba Fett and Season 3 of The Mandalorian.
