Depending on your personal politics, Gina Carano is either somebody who fumbled the bag big time when she lost her Star Wars gig or she is a victim of oppressive censorship courtesy of Disney. Unsurprisingly, Carano falls in the latter camp, and when a user posted a South Park clip to X blaming Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy for “Why Disney Movies All Suck Now,” Carano decided to go off. In her own lengthy repost, Carana went after Kennedy for allegedly planning to suppress anyone who shares the video on YouTube and to hire publications to smear South Park and its creators.
Gina Carano’s History With Disney
In case you’re unsure why Gina Carano is so angry in this post, it all goes back to when she lost her job with Disney. Carano had previously played the character of Cara Dune in The Mandalorian, but she was already on thin ice with Disney due to previous tweets where she mocked mask-wearing during the COVID pandemic and another in which she indicated that voter fraud occurred during the 2020 presidential election.
She was fired after sharing on social media a post suggesting that being a Republican is like being Jewish during the Holocaust.
Gina Carano Vs. Kathleen Kennedy
Going by Gina Carano’s post, it’s clear that she still has quite the ax to grind with Kathleen Kennedy over getting fired from her job in a galaxy far, far away. However, it’s worth noting that Disney fired Carano after her Holocaust comment provoked a #FireGinaCarano social media hashtag that soon went viral.
Furthermore, a source close to the matter told The Hollywood Reporter, “They have been looking for a reason to fire her for two months, and today was the final straw,” which goes against the implied narrative that Carano was impulsively fired simply because of Kathleen Kennedy’s anger at a single online post.
Is Kathleen Kennedy Suppressing Her Critics?
Speaking of narratives, it should go without saying that there is nothing to substantiate Gina Carano’s claims that Kennedy is going to suppress anyone who shares a South Park video making fun of her. In recent years, Kennedy has been the de facto focus of rage for many in the Star Wars fandom who hated the direction of the Sequel Trilogy as well as weaker television entries such as The Book of Boba Fett.
Simply put, if Kathleen Kennedy had both the will and the ability to suppress any and all criticisms of her leadership, there wouldn’t be so many videos, blogs, and social media posts constantly criticizing her.
Gina Carano Was Set To Lead Her Own Star Wars Spinoff
To many, Gina Carano’s X post seems to be nothing more than the bitter manifestation of some very sour grapes. It wasn’t that long ago that Carano was seemingly destined to headline her own Star Wars spinoff Rangers of the New Republic.
Is Gina Carano’s Hollywood Career Over?
She ended her angry X post by sarcastically saying “maybe the jig is up,” but considering that the only roles she now gets are box office bombs like the Ben Shapiro-produced Terror On the Prairie, it seems like she could very well be describing her own Hollywood career.
