The Fallout series is starting to round into shape for Amazon with more casting decisions being made around what could be one of the streamer’s biggest offerings. Considering the backdrop of the video game, and the intense ideas around the setting, Fallout could be one of the cooler series we’ve seen in some time. And now it’s looking like we know who at least two of the series leads will be. Walton Goggins had already been cast in one of the major roles. And now Deadline is reporting that Ella Purnell is on board as well, possibly as the main character and protagonist for the series.

We are still in the planning stages of the Fallout series with only a few details known at this point. It looks like Ella Purnell will be playing the character of Jean, possibly a representation of the Vault Dweller from the original video game, though that is just speculation. And as stated, it’s not clear exactly who Walton Goggins is playing in this one with some of the story elements firmly under wraps at this point. Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan are on as series creators after working on Westworld together. Meanwhile, Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner are on as showrunners.

Ella Purnell was last seen in Yellowjackets as Jackie. The show garnered universal critical acclaim in the story about a high school soccer team whose plane crash-lands in the Canadian wilderness. Purnell’s rather tragic portrayal of Jackie in the first season was one of the key components in the story. She also starred in Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead as Kate Ward, David Bautista’s daughter in the movie. Meanwhile, Walton Goggins had his break as Shane Vendrell in The Shield and has gone on to have a successful career, currently starring in HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones and set for a role in the upcoming The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey with Samuel L. Jackson. You can see Ella Purnell below from Army of the Dead.

The Fallout series is being adapted after the popular video game series of the same name. It’s set in a dystopian future in which the realization of nuclear power and its promise for a sustainable energy source has gone completely off the rails. Now, the United States is a mutant-infested bombed-out landscape full of danger, laying in remnants of the nuclear war that basically destroyed most of society. In the original game, the main character (Ella Purnell here?) is living in the Vault, a series of nuclear shelters that house survivors of the war. But the main character has to go out and find a replacement part needed for survival in the shelter. It’s there that they encounter what has become of the world. Presumably, this is where the series will pick up.

It looks like Walton Goggins, Ella Purnell and company will begin production on Fallout sometime this year with the thought that it will hit Amazon in 2023 or 2024. But we are still waiting on firm dates there. In all, this could shape up to be a massive offering from the platform with plenty of source material and story to draw on for an expansive series.
