Ezra Miller is making headlines again, but with a positive spin this time, according to The Playlist. For those of you who haven’t been following both Miller’s personal and professional life with a close eye, the Flash star has been a source of controversy because of their off-screen behavior in recent years. But their behavior on-set has been referred to as committed and professional, which has prompted director Andy Muschietti to say that Miller is the right person for the role if The Flash 2 ever gets slated for production.

Considering Ezra Miller’s past behavior and resulting legal issues which saw them seeking out treatment for “complex mental health issues” in 2022, Muschietti would certainly have a difficult time replacing the Perks of Being a Wallflower star with a different actor for The Flash 2. The fact of the matter is that although Miller has engaged in questionable behavior in the form of harassment, stalking, and burglary, it’s been made apparent that they were in a questionable mental state when these incidents occurred. By the looks of it, Miller is taking the necessary steps to get back on track and hopefully continue their career in the DCU.

There are some mixed opinions on whether Ezra Miller will reprise their role in The Flash 2, but we’ll probably still have to wait some time to see if and when the sequel will get past the development stages. We all know by now that the DCU is currently being rebooted by Co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran, and at the present time there is not a sequel to The Flash on the current project slate. Though it was reported in 2022 that a script was written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (Aquaman), we’re not 100 percent sure that this project will be green-lit anytime in the near-future.

As for Ezra Miller, we know that Andy Muschietti has their back, but that doesn’t necessarily mean things will go his way. On the one hand, it’s been rumored that the director may end up committing to the DCU’s Batman reboot, which could mean somebody else would be tasked with directing The Flash 2. On the other hand, even if Muschietti ends up directing the sequel, the decision to either retain Miller or let them go may not be his call to make.

Should Ezra Miller’s role be replaced for the yet-to-be-confirmed The Flash 2, filling their shoes will be quite difficult considering how well-received their performance was during its first screenings. Not only is Miller portraying the titular hero, but they’re also portraying alternate versions of Barry Allen on separate timelines. In other words, Miller didn’t just take on one role, but three in The Flash if you think about it.

If Ezra Miller ultimately ends up being replaced with a different actor in The Flash 2, there may be a way around swapping out the lead role. James Gunn confirmed that The Flash would reset the continuity of the DCU, meaning that it’s not outside the realm of possibility that they will be recast.

The Flash is slated for a June 16, 2023, release and is projected to earn $70 million on its opening weekend. Though we don’t know for certain whether Ezra Miller will return to reprise the role, or if The Flash 2 will be picked up for further development any time soon, it’s safe to say that the fate of the franchise and Miller’s contribution to it are still up in the air.
