Tom Welling put his mark on the character of Clark Kent a.k.a. Superman when he starred as the iconic character in Smallville, the television series that lasted for ten seasons and cemented the future of DC superheroes on the WB Network (now The CW). Although the show got a proper series finale and we even got to catch up with Welling’s version of the character thanks to a cameo appearance during the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event, fans have still remained hopeful that a major revival of some sort could be in the future. Well, we have some good news for those who are hoping to see this particular take on the Man of Steel make its return to television.

According to our trusted inside source – the same one that has provided Giant Freakin Robot with multiple confirmed exclusive scoops that have included the reveal that Bruce Wayne’s parents will be evil in Robert Pattinson’s The Batman, Bruce Campbell will appear for a cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and that Monica Rambeau will be a main character in the upcoming Disney+ series Secret Invasion – a Smallville revival is in early talks. Naturally, this would mean the return of Tom Welling as Clark Kent. Exactly what the nature of this revival would be is not something we could nail down (limited series?), it is clear that the powers-that-be over at The CW are trying to find a way to bring this version of Superman and his world back.

This should give you an idea of just how much staying power Smallville and Tom Welling’s take on the Last Son of Krypton has had on fans. There is still active interest in revisiting these characters and seeing what could be done with them. Arguably, it would be worth it just to have Michael Rosenbaum return as Lex Luthor. His version of Superman’s greatest nemesis is one of the best takes on the character ever, and it is worth arguing he helped craft one of the most iconic aspects of the series. If a Smallville revival were to happen, the series has got to figure out a way to bring Rosenbaum back as Luthor.

However, the last time we saw Tom Welling in Crisis on Infinite Earths was a warm and welcome sendoff for Clark Kent. He had given up his superpowers and was content to live out a life on his family farm with Lois Lane. Do fans want to see that be wiped away or followed up on? Naturally, Clark would have to regain his powers somehow. And with Lex Luthor as the President of the United States, there is plenty of potential conflicts to be had. Whether or not that is something fans are interested in seeing is another matter.

If Tom Welling does get to return as Clark Kent, you can bet fans will be eager to see just how such a momentous revival would play out. We will be keeping our eyes and ears open for any more significant developments with this story. Fingers crossed we hear something soon.
