Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will have a gay man as part of the cast.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is going to be an interesting experiment for this modern era of the franchise. It promises to return to a more episodic structure than other recent shows and could signal a more traditional Star Trek series than what we have seen over the last decade. Along with that, it looks to be making strides forward when it comes to representation with its characters. We already managed to get our hands on one report that confirmed there will be a non-binary character as part of the main cast. And now, Giant Freakin Robot has scooped up another piece of character information that will shed a light on where the show is headed.
According to one of our trusted and proven inside sources, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is casting a gay male character for the series. This would follow in the footsteps of Star Trek: Discovery which made a big splash on the legacy of the series by featuring Lt. Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp) and Dr. Hugh Culber (Wilson Cruz), a gay couple on the starship. Exactly what kind of role this character will be playing in the show is unclear at this time. We know that the show is currently in production, so we are curious as to how much of a major impact this gay character will make on the story moving forward.
There is still a lot that we don’t know about Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. the show is keeping a lot of its mysteries under wraps. There is definitely the sense that Paramount wants the series to act as something of a new flagship for the Star Trek franchise. They have given it prominent placement in some of their recent marketing for their streaming service, Paramount+. It feels like there is going to be a serious push for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds to act as the main franchise anchor for the foreseeable future. If that is the case, it will be interesting to discover just how this gay male character will play an integral part in the ongoing series.
Because even though we have been promised episodic adventures, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will be engaging in an overarching plot for the season. Exactly what that overarching story will be remains a mystery, but we have to imagine it will be seeded throughout the season and likely set up in the series’ opening episode. Will this gay male character be playing a key role in that story? Or will they simply be one of the regular crew members on the USS Enterprise?
We will simply have to wait and see what surprises lie in store when Star Trek: Strange New Worlds premieres on Paramount+. The show has yet to announce a premiere date and is set to be in production from now until July. As the episodes continue filming, it is likely more and more information is going to be leaking out. We will keep our ears to the ground for any other significant developments.
