It has been quite a long time since Matt Damon stepped into the role of Jason Bourne, but now he is set to return. Through our trusted and proven sources, we can report that Damon is going to return to the universe of Bourne, and Paul Greengrass is also in talks to direct the new feature. Greengrass has directed three of the five Jason Bourne movies.

The last time that we saw Matt Damon as Jason Bourne, was in the 2016 movie that shared the same name as everyone’s favorite assassin. Paul Greengrass also directed that feature, as he also directed both The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum. We are not sure what the plot of this sixth movie would entail, but it is great to see that Damon is returning to one of his most iconic roles.

Matt Damon’s last entry showcased Jason Bourne finally being cured of his amnesia, as he is living as a street fighter in Greece. However, he learns of his entrance into the Treadstone program and his father’s involvement in the program. Bourne then goes on a quest to once again expose Treadstone, finding that an even worse program is being put together that surpasses the Blackbriar program that was used on him.

Matt Damon heading back to the world of Jason Bourne could mean that he is going to be still on the run after recording the conversation between the new CIA director and the Director of National Intelligence. We would imagine that now there are going to be even more government agencies after the information that Bourne now has. However, Greengrass might also want to change things up and reboot the entire franchise.

This is just speculation at this point, as there are likely plenty of stories to be told that involve Matt Damon’s, Jason Bourne. Despite his always trying to remain in isolation, he is often found or placed into a situation that brings him back on the wrong side of the CIA and more. Now that Bourne has high-security information via the last conversations he recorded, we could imagine a John Wick-like situation, where many former or new Blackbriar assassins are after him.

For now, we will have to wait for confirmation that Matt Damon and Jason Bourne are going to grace our screens once again. Even more exciting will be when Paul Greengrass is confirmed to direct the new potential sequel movie, as he was behind the camera for arguably the best movies in the series. Also, we would love to see Bourne crossover with John Wick at some point.

Matt Damon currently has three movies on his slate, so there could be plenty of time for him to return as Jason Bourne. His next starring feature is in Oppenheimer, as he joins an expansive cast that includes Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Gary Oldman, Rami Malek, and more in the new Christopher Nolan epic. However, we can’t wait to see Damon return as the best assassin in the world.
