Jennifer Lawrence has made quite a name for herself when it comes to taking on extreme and unconventional roles. The actress continues to prove herself as one of the most versatile thespians of her age. She can go from high-profile comic book roles like Mystique in the X-Men series to arthouse fare like Darren Aronofsky’s truly bizarre mother!. There is no way you can pigeonhole her. And it looks like she could be adding another seriously dramatic role to her ever-expanding acting repertoire.

Our trusted insider source – the same one that gave us our confirmed scoop regarding the return of Josh Brolin to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Thanos – has given us information that Jennifer Lawrence is being eyed to star in an adaptation of Louis Begley’s Wartime Lies. The novel centers around a young Jewish woman and her nephew during the time of Poland’s occupation by the Nazis. The two of them attempt to avoid detection of their Jewish heritage by using forged Aryan papers that help them traverse across Poland during the Nazi decimation of Jewish communities. It is a harrowing tale that is almost certainly being positioned to be an Oscar contender.

Jennifer Lawrence will be joined by award-winning director Luca Guadagnino who is set to helm the project. Interestingly, this project has some very famous development history. Legendary director Stanley Kubrick had long hoped to make an adaptation of the novel and was going to call the film Aryan Papers. Of course, this movie never came to fruition. However, it looks like Guadagnino has looked over the work Kubrick has done on the project and will be using it as some sort of inspiration for his version. That alone should have any film buff immediately interested.

It is unclear exactly what stage the production is in at this point. If Jennifer Lawrence does sign on the dotted line, it would almost guarantee the movie really starts rolling towards getting off the ground. Jennifer Lawrence already has one Oscar under her belt for her breakthrough performance in Silver Linings Playbook. Nabbing the lead role in this adaptation could be her ticket towards her second Oscar win. It definitely sounds like the kind of project that would be pushed for a lot of awards attention.

We should stress that our info does not say that Jennifer Lawrence has signed onto the project, but rather that she is the top choice for the lead role. We do know that the actress is also attached to another high-profile project from producer Will Ferrell that is based on the true story of medical tech CEO Elizabeth Holmes. Does Lawrence plan to take that project over this one? Or is she making room in her schedule for both projects? No matter what, it seems pretty clear that she is angling for a lead performance that could possibly net her some more accolades.

If we learn any more concrete info about this new Jennifer Lawrence project, we will make sure to update you as soon as possible.
