He’s played Superman. He’s topping the charts on Netflix with The Witcher. He’s going to star in the Highlander reboot. What’s next for Henry Cavill? A trusted and proven source for Giant Freakin Robot has provided the answer. The actor has signed on to star in an adaptation of The Rosie Project, a romantic comedy that’s been in the works for several years now.

Henry Cavill’s career has been growing by leaps and bounds. As romantic comedies aren’t the big blockbusters they used to be, it’s surprising that Cavill was ready to sign on for The Rosie Project, but everything behind this one makes it seem like the studio has big plans. At this point, Cavill doesn’t have a co-lead for the movie. Back in 2015, Jennifer Lawrence was attached to play Rosie, but left the project after negotiations went bad. Everything we’ve heard from our inside source makes it sound like that’s been a common problem so far on this project. Since Cavill’s career is busy right now, the studio will need to get an actress to co-star quickly if they’re going to stay on schedule.

Henry Cavill will play Don Tillman, a genetics professor who has never been on a second date, but who now aims to fall in love. Tillman has Asperger’s syndrome (now referred to as autism spectrum disorder). The professor knows exactly what he’s looking for–everything that the bartender Rosie is not. She’s wild, chaotic, and carefree. The opposite of Don Tillman. The pair link up when she needs help finding her birth father and aims to take advantage of Don Tillman’s skills with genetics research. Naturally, the pair of opposites fall in love.

This is an interesting next move for Henry Cavill, who appears to be looking to diversify the roles he’s playing. Many of his roles have him in action-oriented parts. This sounds more like the Clark Kent side to him. It wouldn’t be surprising at all to learn the professor character will be wearing glasses. His character is going to be detail-oriented, organized, and uptight. While the rom-com will have him be a swoon-worthy character, it’ll be different than when he takes his shirt off for The Witcher.

Previously, it would have been fair to guess that Cavill is looking for more action-heavy roles. He’s always working out and getting stronger. It makes sense that an actor known for his part as a superhero would lean toward action movies in major blockbusters, but it seems that Cavill may have other plans for his career.

Weeks ago, we exclusively broke the story that Henry Cavill was cast in a spy movie with other major stars. That story was just recently confirmed by Deadline and has Cavill in another film being adapted from a novel. With Highlander, the spy movie, and this romantic comedy all on the horizon, it’s going to be interesting to see what projects Cavill chooses moving forward as he attempts to continue appearing in high-profile projects while diversifying his work. Will he go too far afield and make it difficult for audiences to know what to expect from him? Or will he prove himself to be a force to be reckoned with who can bring life back to rom-coms?
