There has been an expansion and revival on arguably one of the best franchises from the 1980s, Gremlins. It had been announced that a new animated series called Gremlins: Secrets of Mogwai was created and serves as a prequel to the first film that came out in 1984. This new series aired at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 13th, and the series received a second season renewal before it had even premiered. It focuses on a young 10-year-old Sam when he first meets Gizmo. Now, through our trusted and proven sources, we can happily announce that a new live-action Gremlins series is being worked on for HBO.

This new Gremlins series is huge news for a franchise that truly should have lived on past the initial moves that came out. Although we have been given the animated series, it’s far more centered around children, which is completely fine. This new live-action series, however, should follow the same violent and whacky formula the films had. It absolutely will follow that formula though, as we can also report that some of the original cast will be returning for this new series. We are not sure who of the cast will be returning, but we can bet money on Zach Galligan (Billy) returning, as he did have a bit of a revival with Gizmo via some Mountain Dew commercials last year. That led to the man speaking about the puppets used in the commercial and what would be used in the potential Gremlins 3 sequel film.

Gremlins might not be the draw that it once was in the 1980s, but if fans latch on to this new Gremlins series on HBO, then it might open the doors completely for Gremlins 3 to be fast-tracked into production. The third sequel film has been teased for quite some time now and even has an IMDB page dedicated to it with a December 2023 release date. However, that might be some lofty goals as nothing has been set in stone just yet. Then again, Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai has been quite successful in terms of it being renewed before it premieres on Cartoon Network. Should the show be welcomed by a huge audience, it could push Gremlins 3 further into development as well.

A new Gremlins series might also be the smartest move in terms of seeing if the material still connects with people. Sure, there are those diehard fans that still appreciate the wild irreverence that the 1980s films brought, but there will need to be a brand-new audience that can latch on to these beings. Bringing back some of the classic characters will also serve as fan service to the cult following that still loves the franchise. We don’t know that Howie Mandell would return as the voice of Gizmo, but we can bank on Zach Galligan, Phoebe Cates, and possibly Corey Feldman returning.

HBO does have some of the best programming, and they hardly miss when producing shows. The channel has become a hub for all the wild Batman and DC projects that have been made as well, so a Gremlins series would fit right in. We hope to see this series do well so that the corresponding Gremlins 3 film can also be tied in.
