Eiza Gonzalez may not be a household name right now, but she has been making strides in the world of movies and television. She has had prominent roles in Godzilla vs. Kong, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series, and is reportedly joining the DC universe as Hawkgirl. She has more than proven her capability to be a leading actor in these projects, but she has yet to really anchor an entire tentpole movie on her own. Will we see her talent given the kind of spotlight it deserves? Well, thanks to some new information from one of our trusted and proven insider sources, it looks like she is definitely going to get a major opportunity in a highly-anticipated sequel.

Our info says that Eiza Gonzalez is the number one choice for a main character role in RoboCop Returns, the upcoming sequel to the 1987 sci-fi action classic. Her role would be that of a point-of-view character and we can confirm that the role is a Latina lead. Whether or not she is aligned with RoboCop or is working against his best interests remains to be seen. Will Eiza Gonzalez be a member of the insidious Omni Consumer Products corporation? Or will she be a fellow police officer in Detroit? Or perhaps she is a citizen that gets caught up in the machinations of the city and the corporations that run it. Whatever the role might be, we can assure you that it is intended to be one of the lead characters of the sequel.

Eiza Gonzalez definitely deserves to be given more time in the spotlight. She has been delivering electric performances in movies like Baby Driver and Alita: Battle Angel. Having her be one of the main characters in RoboCop Returns would give her another opportunity to showcase her talents and attract new fans. It would all depend on exactly what the role calls for and how the actress would be utilized. Last we heard, Australian director Abe Forsythe had joined the project in the hopes of getting it out of development hell. Obviously, plans got put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic, but it looks like things are starting to move forward, and casting is going to start happening very soon.

Eiza Gonzalez would be the first official member of the cast that we would know about at this point. It is not even clear that Peter Weller, the original actor who portrayed Officer Alex Murphy a.k.a. RoboCop, will be returning for the sequel. Could he be providing the voice and only a few glimpses at his face? Thanks to digital de-aging technology, it is possible that he could portray the role again but not have to be on set nearly as much. A double could be used for when the character is masked and Weller would just provide the voice. Or will the sequel have the unenviable task of recasting RoboCop?

We will have to wait and see how this all develops, but we can say for certain that Eiza Gonzalez is the number one choice to star in RoboCop Returns. Here’s hoping she signs on the dotted line and we can hear more updates about this project.
