If folks can remember, Disney had released one of the most charming, animated films back in 2002. That film was Treasure Planet. Treasure Planet took the classic Robert Louis Stevenson story and incorporated a strong element of science-fiction, which was a fantastic retelling of one of the most classic stories of pirates and adventure. With Disney continually taking their classic animated tales and giving them the live-action treatment, we are happy to report through our trusted and proven sources, that Dwayne Johnson is being eyed to lead a live-action Treasure Planet film.

Dwayne Johnson appearing in Treasure Planet makes a ton of sense, considering that he is one of the biggest stars on the planet. That’s not to mention that he already has a working relationship with Disney. Johnson led the film version of Jungle Cruise, which is one of the most popular rides at the Disneyland theme park. He was joined by Emily Blunt, and the pair turned what sounded like an odd premise into one of the most entertaining films of 2021. Disney is likely hoping that Johnson can help replicate the success of that film, by adding his talent to this Treasure Planet remake.

It is a bit odd that Treasure Planet is targeting Dwayne Johnson, considering he is also in talks to lead a Pirates of the Caribbean spinoff film. However, Johnson would make a fantastic pirate, so we are not complaining here. The original Treasure Planet film had Joseph Gordon-Levitt voice the lead character, Jim Hawkins, so maybe that could happen again. Levitt is currently voicing Jiminy Cricket for the live-action remake of Pinocchio, so he also has a working relationship with Disney. It would be some great fan service to see Levitt return to the Hawkins role with Johnson portraying the mutinous John Silver. Silver is the cyborg who Hawkins is warned about at the beginning of the film. The character is a great anti-hero of sorts, and it would be good to see Johnson take on that role, after Black Adam of course.

Treasure Planet was the first Disney animated film to be released in theaters and IMAX simultaneously. Although it had a heavy budget of $140 million, and only made $110 million at the box office, it was lauded as one of the best-animated films. It was even honored with a nomination for Best Animated Film at the Academy Awards. The film became a bit of a cult classic in terms of Disney films. The same can be said about Jungle Cruise which held a $200 million budget and made $220 million at the box office. Though the numbers are lower, fans loved both these films. A live-action Treasure Planet film and Dwayne Johnson sounds like the perfect pairing.

Dwayne Johnson is a massively busy man, but he could find time for Treasure Planet and Pirates of the Caribbean. We would welcome him in both of those films. Especially for Treasure Planet, because the man would be great in a science-fiction-based pirate film. Who are we kidding, Johnson is great in everything that he does.
