The pop culture world was crushed by the news that Batgirl had been canceled by Warner Bros. Discovery, but we were likely not as crushed as the creators of the movie: Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. However, through our trusted and proven sources, we can now report that Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah will be helming the new Mummy reboot. This is massive news considering one of the stars of the Batgirl movie was Brendan Fraser, who happened to also star in the hit film series, The Mummy.

Brendan Fraser is currently going through a huge comeback in the acting game, and he was meant to return to his first role in years in Batgirl as the villain Firefly. Though that did not happen, it would be perfect for him to then strike a deal with the Batgirl directors to return as Rick O’Connell in The Mummy reboot. The man did recently state he would be up for returning to the role if someone were to come up with the “right” idea.

Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah might have seen enough from Brendan Fraser as Firefly to want to pitch an idea for The Mummy reboot and bring him along as the lead in the movie. Granted, when we read “reboot,” we think that the movie is going to be a completely new one that follows the same formula, but there are certain movies that have been rebooted and brought in older characters. Even if Fraser was loosely involved with the movie in the form of a guide or cameo presence, the world would be forever thankful.

Though Batgirl never saw its 2022 release, which would have likely been around this time, we can see Brendan Fraser in his first role since his big acting return. The man is starring in The Whale, the new film by Darren Aronofsky, which releases today in select theaters. The new film has already garnered plenty of Academy Award buzz, which could further fuel the idea of The Mummy reboot starring Fraser as O’Connell.

Brendan Fraser is a much older and larger man than he was back in the late 1990s, but he could certainly get into shape if wanted to play a fitter Rick O’Connell in The Mummy reboot. Even more than that, he could play the wise adventurer role and tutor his son in the ways of treasure finding and escaping the clutches of evil mummified forces. If Harrison Ford can play Indiana Jones well into his 70s, then Fraser could certainly come back as an older Rick O’Connell.

Brendan Fraser returning as Rick O’Connell is certainly just speculation at this point, but it would make a lot of sense for him to be the case in The Mummy reboot considering he worked extensively with Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah on Batgirl. For now, we will have to wait and see what news will come of this fantastic bombshell. Universal does own the rights to The Mummy, so we won’t likely have to worry much about them randomly canceling the movie when it is in the post-production stages.
