With Peacemaker having wrapped a triumph of a first season on HBO Max, spinning off one of the funnier and surprisingly heartwarming characters we’ve seen in a while in the superhero space, there’s already excitement building for the second run of stories. With James Gunn and John Cena already confirming a second season is in the works, we have some other news that is likely to spark some excitement among fans of the series. The latest Giant Freakin Robot exclusive from our trusted and proven source has it that we are going to get another popular DC character in the mix the next time around. That’s right, it’s looking like Bane is going to be part of the Peacemaker second season, likely as one of the primary antagonists.

While other details around Bane’s involvement are a bit light right now, there are some definite ways we can speculate around what might happen with this next run of Peacemaker episodes. For starters, we already know that the Justice League is, for sure, part of this universe meaning there could be some Batman overlap at some point. And we might even have an idea about who could fill the Bane mask when it’s all said and done. That’s because there is already some speculation that Dave Bautista could step into the Bane role for this Peacemaker season. On that front, the casting almost makes too much sense.

For starters, Dave Bautista has been vocal in the past about wanting to play Bane in the DC Extended Universe. He’s mentioned it on social media before and apparently even held a meeting with Warner Bros all but insisting that he be given a chance to play Bane in this franchise. His wanting to get into the role also dovetails with the working relationship he has with Peacemaker’s creative head James Gunn. The two have already worked together with the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise and we know that Bautista is about to wrap up his time as Drax in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At this point, considering the overlap and Bautista’s past sentiments around the role, it would almost be shocking if he didn’t play Bane in Peacemaker.

This is all to say that we should be setting up for another fantastic run of episodes with a Peacemaker Season 2, giving the chance to fold in more DC characters, superheroes, and villains alike when it is all said and done. And adding Bane would be a chance for the studio to really distance itself from the Tom Hardy version we saw in The Dark Knight Rises. While he was solid in the role, this new take on the DC Universe through The Suicide Squad and now Peacemaker definitely trends much more on the comedic side. That would lend itself to a version of Bane that was possibly a bit more tongue-in-cheek, maybe even a bit more like Drax in terms of vibe.

While we wait on the studio’s confirmation that Bane is going to be part of the proceedings, we can definitely speculate that along with John Cena returning as Peacemaker, we will get Danielle Brooks back as Leota Adebayo, Christopher Smith’s second-ranking BFF. Plus should be Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Steve Agee as John Economos, and Freddie Stroma as Vigilante, one of the truly great additions to the DC Extended Universe. And it should only be a matter of time before we confirm even more details around Peacemaker Season 2.
