Many fans got emotional seeing Ewan McGregor return as Obi-Wan in the Disney+ series. Apparently, those feelings extend to McGregor himself, as he admitted one scene, in particular, made him cry. The Direct reported on an interview McGregor did with Disney Studio Awards where he said, “I watched Episode 6… when I tell [Vivien Lyra Blair’s Leia], ‘May the Force Be With You,’ at the end, I burst into tears.”

Clearly, Ewan McGregor treasures his time playing Obi-Wan just as much as fans treasure him in the role. Many fans initially hated the prequel films (though those feelings have softened with time), but McGregor’s performance was widely considered one of the best aspects. As time passed and fans began to look at the prequels in a better light, many were hoping that we would get to see McGregor reprise the fan-favorite role again.

Of course, Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi wasn’t quite the homecoming that fans were expecting. While there were undoubtedly awesome parts of the series — namely the relationship between Kenobi and Vader — the reaction to the show was pretty mixed overall. However, McGregor’s performance once again rose above some of the more mediocre parts of the show, making it worth the watch.

Along with Ewan McGregor, many fans were also excited to see Hayden Christensen return as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in Obi-Wan Kenobi. Christensen’s performance in the prequel trilogy was pretty unfairly maligned, but fans also softened on it over the years. So much, so that many were actively campaigning for Christensen to come back and even get his own Vader spin-off show.

While a Vader spin-off may or may not happen, it definitely seems like they were setting up a return for Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan in the future. While nothing has been officially announced, both McGregor and Christensen have expressed interest in reprising their roles for another season. Also, the end of Kenobi indicated that he wasn’t stuck in Tatooine watching Luke for all those years and that he may have had more adventures than we initially thought.

If Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi was a more active part of setting up the Rebellion, we could even potentially see him pop up in other post-Revenge of the Sith shows. Namely, the fan-favorite series Andor. Andor takes place between the Obi-Wan show and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, so Kenobi could conceivably show up sometime in Season 2.

Tony Gilroy and the Andor team don’t seem too interested in fan service for the sake of fan service. If Ewan McGregor did show up as Obi-Wan, it would have to be for a very good reason that serves the story. This is part of what makes Andor so great, so it definitely seems like a long shot that Kenobi ends up making an appearance.

Whether or not we see Ewan McGregor again as Obi-Wan, you can look forward to plenty more Star Wars series to come. Currently, Disney+ is airing new episodes of the second season of The Bad Batch. We’ll also be getting the third season of The Mandalorian on March 1 and Ahsoka later in 2023.
