The Evil Dead Rise trailer is here and it’s gory, terrifying, and crazy in all of the right ways. This will be the fifth film in the franchise following the quasi-remake/sequel hybrid Evil Dead that was released in 2013. The trailer is packed with madness and, of course, a chainsaw makes an appearance, so it looks like the film will be a faithful return to the acclaimed horror franchise.

Evil Dead Rise follows Ellie, the mother of three children, who is possessed by demons while her estranged sister Beth is visiting. Beth and Ellie’s children find themselves in a battle to survive against evil. The film stars Alyssa Sutherland as Ellie, Lily Sullivan as Beth, and Morgan Davies, Gabrielle Echols, and Nell Fisher as the kids.

Evil Dead Rise is written and directed by Lee Cronin, who brings the Evil Dead franchise back to life with New Line Cinema and Renaissance Pictures. Creator of the franchise and director of the first three films, Sam Raimi, is on as an executive producer and frequent franchise star Bruce Campbell is also executive producing. With a team like this, there are a lot of reasons to be excited about the upcoming film.

Rob Tapert produces Evil Dead Rise and other executive producers on board include John Keville, Macdara Kelleher, Richard Brener, Dave Neustadter, Romel Adam, and Victoria Palmieri. While fans will undoubtedly be missing Campbell’s Ash in the new movie, we did get to see him in his own TV show Ash vs Evil Dead from 2015 to 2018. It looks like now is the perfect time to bring some fresh blood to the Evil Dead universe.

Evil Dead Rise also switches up the setting for the franchise, moving it from a cabin in the woods to the city. There is definitely a lot to be excited about judging by this trailer. If this film does well and is well-received, we could hopefully expect more films and projects in the future.

A bloody shot from Evil Dead Rise

While we wait for Evil Dead Rise to be released, there are plenty of projects from the franchise to check out. You could always revisit the original trilogy of films that started with The Evil Dead, The Evil Dead II, and Army of Darkness. The Evil Dead movie from 2013 and the Ash vs The Evil Dead TV series are both well worth checking out as well. In 2022, there was even a new video game titled Evil Dead: The Game that was released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Evil Dead: The Game is a survival horror game and received decent reviews after its release, with fans particularly enjoying their time with it. If you can’t get enough Evil Dead, this game should help tide you over. Fortunately, you won’t have to wait long until Evil Dead Rise comes to theaters if you’re not a gamer.

Evil Dead Rise is set for an April 21, 2023 release date. It’ll be interesting to see what new and fresh direction they decide to take the franchise. Until then, you’ll just have to watch the fantastic trailer on repeat.
