The Emmy-nominated series recently dropped a brief teaser of the upcoming season, winning the hearts of many who have followed Emily Cooper’s journey so far. The third season is set to hit the streamer on December 21st, just in time for the holidays.
Emily in Paris was created by Darren Star, who also worked on the famed romantic-comedy series Sex in the City. It stars Lilly Collins as Emily Cooper, an aspiring marketing executive who moves to France to provide an American viewpoint of the marketing term Savoir. The series premiered on October 2nd, 2020.
It was reported in January that Emily in Paris was renewed for two more seasons. According to Deadline, the show’s second season gained impressive viewership for the platform. The Darren Star series also has an estimated 107.6 million viewing hours.
Critics were mixed over the first season of Emily in Paris. On Rotten Tomatoes, the season holds a rating of 63% based on 55 reviews. The site’s critical consensus called the series a “rom-com fantasy at its finest.”
As for Emily in Paris’ main star, Lily Collins has been keeping herself busy. The actress’s 2022 film Windfall was one of the most viewed films on the platform at one point, and she has starred in other projects for Netflix, including the 2017 Bong Joon-ho film Okja.
When she’s not stepping in the shoes of Emily Cooper, Collins is playing a real-life rapping crypto scammer. It was reported this month that the actress is set to star in a project titled Razzlekhan: The Infamous Crocodile of Wall Street. The project will hit Hulu rather than Netflix.
Emily in Paris sees Lilly Collin’s return as Emily after last year’s season 2. The series so far has been watched by over 58 million viewers and continues to be one of Collin’s strongest credits. It remained in the UK’s top ten for 40 consecutive weeks after its initial release on the streamer.
While the series is praised by many, it isn’t without controversy. Emily in Paris received two nominations at the Golden Globes, but only after it was reported that 30 members of the voting body were flown to Paris, and their travel and lunch bill was reportedly paid by the show’s developer, Paramount Network. This led some to question the legitimacy of the nominations.
Some also wondered whether Emily in Paris would’ve been nominated considering that the show received mixed reviews from critics.
