Emilia Clarke seems pretty okay with her legacy on Game of Thrones and she has the real-life dragons to prove it. See it here.

There are a lot of actors out there who hate their most famous roles and will do just about anything to not be reminded of them. For example, Robert Pattinson seems like he would rather burn the world to the ground than be asked about Twilight ever again. Pierce Brosnan has owned up to pretty much hating James Bond (or at least his own performance as 007). But Emilia Clarke seems quite happy to be still associated with her breakout role as Daenerys Targaryen in the HBO series Game of Thrones. For example, you can see how happy she looks to be playing with her trademark symbol: dragons. Check out Emilia Clarke’s recent Instagram post:

That is the Mother of Dragons herself making a kissy-face at a trio of tiny, colorful plastic dragons. That does not seem like someone who gets in a fury when having to think about the role that brought them fame  (looking at you, various Doctor Whos). Emilia Clarke is dressed in what looks like a very comfortable sweater while holding these dragons (pink, orange, and green, respectively, just like in nature), and has her natural brown colored hair pulled back. The caption to her Instagram post references her three fictional dragon children from Game of Thrones, Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion. It also has a few hashtags indicating “set life” “she’s fully lost the plot” and “mamma needs a holiday!” which seems like a subtle hint that whatever project Emilia Clarke is working on, she is about ready to be done.

It goes without saying at this point that Game of Thrones ended on a culturally controversial note. While the HBO show based on George R.R. Martin’s long-running and still-unfinished Song of Ice and Fire series became a titanic hit when it premiered in 2011, the final season became a focus of critical ire and fan fury. It is unlikely that there could have been any sufficiently satisfying resolution to the series with the weight of expectations on it, but HBO seems happy enough that they are going back to the well for a new series. Emilia Clarke is not reported to be involved in the upcoming House of the Dragon series premiering this August, which is natural enough given it takes place 200 years before her character is born. But it does seem probable that the Game of Thrones stars of the past will be drawn back into the show’s devouring maw for their takes on the new series at some point.

But it is not as if Emilia Clarke has not kept herself busy in the meantime. In 2019 (the year Game of Thrones finished), she starred in both a crime thriller called Above Suspicion and a high concept romantic comedy called Last Christmas. She is currently set to voice act in the upcoming animated movie The Amazing Maurice (based on a Terry Pratchett novel) and will be joining the MCU for the Disney+ series Secret Invasion. Emilia Clarke will also be playing the wife of controversial US Senator Joseph McCarthy in a biopic and star with Chiwetel Ejiofor in a science fiction film titled The Pod Generation. That’s a lot of work, and we should just be happy for her to get a little dragon time in.
