The Golden Globes took place last night, bringing together the biggest stars from show business, including Eddie Murphy. Murphy was the recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille Award, which is given to those who exhibit “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment.” During his acceptance speech, Murphy told a hilarious joke that involved a dig at Will Smith and his big slapping controversy with Chris Rock, which you can see below:

The entire room erupted when Eddie Murphy was earnestly telling everyone his blueprint for success, only to end this impassioned speech with, “and keep Will Smith’s wife’s name out your f****** mouth!” In typical comedic fashion, Murphy got thunderous applause and laughter, which all but leveled the entire room. Back before Murphy became one of the biggest movie stars in the world, he was known to be one of the best stand-up comics, and his joke last night just further cemented his legacy.

The most hilarious part about the above video is that everyone is shown listening rather intently, right up until Eddie Murphy drops his bomb of a joke. To be honest, he had us all going in the first half of the delivery, which is why he is regarded as one of the best stand-up comics to ever hold a mic. Hopefully, this will be the push he needs to return to stand-up.

Many have been begging for Eddie Murphy to return to the world of stand-up comedy, which he has alluded to wanting to do. He has even gone so far as to drop in at the legendary Comedy Store in Los Angeles, California, though he was only there to take in the comedy scene and did not actually perform. Still, everyone is patiently waiting for him to return to the stage soon.

For now, Eddie Murphy is set to reprise his role as Axel Foley in the new Beverly Hills Cop movie, which is being produced by Netflix. Murphy has been revisiting some of his older franchises, as he released Coming 2 America, which is the sequel to Coming to America, one of the funniest movies from the 1980s. Coming 2 America can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley is the fourth film in the franchise and will bring back Eddie Murphy in the titular role. Also joining Murphy in the movie are Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Kevin Bacon. The sequel movie is also set to bring back franchise regulars, Judge Reinhold and John Ashton as Detective Billy Rosewood and Sergeant Taggart, along with Paul Reiser as Jeffrey Friedman.

Eddie Murphy would blow up the stand-up comedy scene if he were to ever want to present another hour-long special, and we hope that he does soon. His delivery is second to none and is on the same level as other greats like George Carlin and Richard Pryor. While Murphy may not be rushing to take the stage again to perform, we can at least be happy that he has taken more of an active role in movies once again.
