Dwayne Johnson made the move from the wrestling ring to the big screen and made it look damn easy. And there are others out there who’ve made the move as well to great success. There’s a certain showmanship in the WWE that translates very well to being in front of the camera with other productions. And one of Johnson’s fellow former wrestlers wants to team up for a new movie. According to insider Daniel Richtman, John Cena wants to work with Johnson on an original film.

While there are very few details around what kind of movie this would be for Dwayne Johnson and John Cena, it would be an exciting prospect to get both on the big screen together. Considering the talent levels of the two, there are quite a few ways something like this could take shape. While both were originally known for their brawn and muscles, they’ve each shown a propensity to handle the comedic side of things as well. Both actors have starred in action flicks of course, but even though there’s a certain physical presence, they’ve shown a softer and funnier side as well.

If an original film came together would we see something like Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw? It wouldn’t necessarily land in this universe, though it might be a logical starting point. Dwayne Johnson starred in the spin-off film after having a role in the sixth and seventh installments of the franchise. But after a much-publicized beef with star Vin Diesel, didn’t take part in The Fate of the Furious and doesn’t have a role in the upcoming F9. But John Cena does. He’s stepping in as Jakob Toretto, the younger brother of Diesel’s Dom. The former just happens to be a master thief.

But a team-up between Dwayne Johnson and John Cena wouldn’t have to land in the Fast & Furious world at all. Like I said, the two have enough range to pull off a number of different kinds of movies, straddling the action/ comedy line pretty well. Johnson’s done something similar with the Jumanji franchise in its first two movies and has a similarly themed flick with the upcoming Jungle Cruise. And Cena sure looks like he’s going to bring the laughs and kills when he stars as Peacemaker in the upcoming Suicide Squad reboot from James Gunn. There’s going to be a spin-off series for the actor as well.

Could we see Dwayne Johnson and John Cena overlap in the DC Extended Universe? With Cena there soon, Johnson is set to join him as well. He’s currently filming Black Adam which will land him his first role off of the comic book pages. That story is shaping up to be more of an antihero turn for the actor considering Black Adam doesn’t start off with the best of powerful intentions. But the flick is shaping up to be a massive blockbuster when it hits screens next summer.

So really, the sky’s the limit when it comes to how these two could partner up on a film. The bigger question isn’t whether a movie would work, it’s will they have enough time? Dwayne Johnson is one of the busier guys out there right now with a seemingly never-ending list of productions coming down the pike in the next couple of years. In addition to the above-mentioned movies, he’s also got a Doc Savage reboot coming as well as a followup to San Andreas. Time will tell if he and Cena ever get something going.
