As far as anyone can tell, Dwayne Johnson is always down for a sequel. Why wouldn’t he be? When you have a proven track record at the box office showing that your next movie has an audience ready and willing to show up for your next movie, it only makes sense to give them what they want. However, these days, The Rock is a part of so many franchises that it becomes hard to keep track of all his commitments. That raises questions about what he has time for. We last saw the star in Jumanji: The Next Level in 2019, to a box office success of $800 million. Still, it’s been a while since we’ve heard talk of the next sequel happening. Has the star grown too busy for the Sony films?

Today, we have news on the next Jumanji from Kevin Hart. The star’s friendship with Dwayne Johnson has become well known after they’ve done several movies together. In an interview with Collider, Kevin Hart shared a lot about what he’s up to and how he views the Jumanji franchise future. In short: it’s inevitable that it will happen at some point, though he doesn’t know when.

Kevin Hart is a comedian, but he’s also straight forward when he talks about business. He started off by saying that the numbers these movies he did with Dwayne Johnson see are “astronomical numbers”. The box office may reach those heights for Marvel, DC, and Fast & Furious movies, but it doesn’t happen outside of that. And it did for Jumanji. “You don’t walk away from that.”

“It’s about the timing,” said Kevin Hart. Jumanji stars Hart along with Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan. This is a busy cast that’s hard to get all together. He continued, “We’ve all kind of taken on some other projects, so I think when things slow down for us and our commitments are out the way, we’re definitely going to revisit another one because there’s no reason not to. It’s a family adventure. That’s a box that, once again, if you can check correctly it’s amazing. It’s profitable. The household of all can go out and enjoy, but right now, my priorities are and the commitments that I’ve made.”

Kevin Hart is currently in Budapest filming the Borderlands movie with fellow Jumanji star, Jack Black. The video-game adaptation has an all-star cast and is heavily anticipated. While everything he had to say about the Dwayne Johnson team-up for Jumanji makes it sound inevitable, it does also make it sound a long ways off in the distance, which is unfortunate for Jumanji fans. Of course, no one expected the new movies to come out after the 1990s film with Robin Williams, or that there would be such a large audience for the sequels, so expecting the unexpected seems appropriate here.

Currently, Dwayne Johnson fans are waiting to see him in Red Notice. He recently updated fans on that upcoming action-comedy for Netflix, and it sounds like we may be seeing it during the holiday season of 2021. Long before that, we’ll be seeing Jungle Cruise, a family-friendly movie from Disney that will likely reach the same audience as Jumanji did for Sony. Jungle Cruise sees Johnson co-star with Emily Blunt in a family adventure film based on the famous Disney Parks ride. You can expect to see Jungle Cruise become available in movie theaters and on Disney+ with Premier Access on July 30, 2021.
