In preparation for the DC FanDome event on Saturday, we are getting all kinds of new looks at upcoming projects, characters, and movies in the comic book studio’s pipeline. There is a ton of excitement building for what is coming down the pike here though there might be no more anticipated movie than when we get Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam next summer. It’s the superstar’s first foray into the comic book/ superhero world and it is sure looking like DC pulled out all of the stops.

Though we are set to get a more extended look at Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam later in the day, this is definitely a tone-setter of sorts. With DC clearly beginning to distance itself from its first run of characters, making way for a new generation that will work to redefine some of the issues inherent up until this point, Black Adam could become very much the face of this universe going forward. Check out what Dwayne Johnson has to say about it in the latest teaser on Instagram

And here’s a longer teaser posted on Twitter…

Dwayne Johnson doesn’t mix any words with his latest update on Black Adam. He says that the “hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change” and it’s clear where he is putting his new character. That would apparently be at the very top of the superhero pyramid.

Of course, there are also some up-close shots of Dwayne Johnson in the Black Adam costume as well. It’s a layered look, accentuating some of the symbols and patterns in what looks to be a very different kind of suit. They are just quick, parting shots but it is still giving us this first sense that the character isn’t going to fit in exactly with the overall feeling of what we had with the Snyderverse era of Justice League characters. By all accounts, Black Adam will be bloodier and more violent, set to lean into an antihero vibe we haven’t seen before in this universe up until this point.

We also get Pierce Brosnan ringing in saying, “Nothing compares to this.” He will be playing Dr. Fate in the new movie as they begin assembling the Justice Society of America. And though this is just the first little teaser, an appetizer more than anything else, there is some imagery that could begin to define the overall scheme here. We get a silhouetted Black Adam floating above the city skyline, an ominous and powerful presence, akin to Superman but a bit more foreboding and a little less wholesome.

Black Adam with Dwayne Johnson in the lead next summer, on July 29, 2022. The build-up for it is already real. And the DC FanDome event is sure to bring an even more intense look at the character. In this sense, DC looks like they nailed it with the casting, bringing in one of Hollywood’s true superstars to play a role that, for many, will be a new face. But the plan looks like it will put him at the very forefront of everything they are doing. Dwayne Johnson says as much, and he’s at the top of this particular hierarchy.
