Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler have teamed up in the past for a number of romantic comedy films. It is worth debating which of those movies are worth your time, but it looks like the two superstars are looking to reunite once again for another one of their trademark comedies.
Both Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore phoned into the MTV Movie & TV Awards: Greatest of All Time celebration to accept the Dynamic Duo award. During their conversation, they noted that they have gotten together to make a movie in every one of the last three decades. And now, with a new decade underway, it sounds like they want to do it again.
You can watch the segment with Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler in the tweet below from MTV’s official Twitter account:
In the video, Adam Sandler responds to Drew Barrymore saying “it’s a new decade, so we get to make another movie together.” They acknowledge that they do not have a specific idea for a movie in mind, but it is pretty clear that they want to work together once more and deliver one of their romantic comedies.
The dup have worked together on three films as co-leads. The first was The Wedding Singer from 1998. In that movie, Adam Sandler played a heartbroken performer who gets left at the altar. Eventually, he crosses paths with Drew Barrymore’s character who is about to get married but is having doubts about her future husband. The movie has been well-received over the years and even spawned a Broadway musical.
Their second collaboration was 50 First Dates in 2004. This movie saw Drew Barrymore as a character who suffered from a fictionalized version of anterograde amnesia, and Adam Sandler is a guy who decides to try and win her heart every single day until she remembers him. This movie had a more middling reception but still has maintained a following. It has even been remade a number of times in international markets.
But it was their last team-up movie, Blended, where critics simply could not get on board with the film. This one has Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore being two people who dislike each other, but they end up having to share their time together during an African retreat. The movie gained more disdain from people when Sandler basically admitted that he used it to get a nice vacation. Since then, the two have yet to work together again on a project.
So it sounds like that is what they want to achieve in this new decade. If nothing else, it would be nice to see Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler make another movie that makes up for the poor reception to Blended. Regardless of your personal feelings towards the two actors, they do have a sweet chemistry on-screen and they absolutely can capture that at least one more time. Exactly what kind of project would they end up doing together? We will have to wait and see how far into this decade it takes before they reunite for one more adventure together.
