Donald Glover has a role in the upcoming Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse movie. Our trusted and proven sources tell us that the Community veteran will cameo in the sequel film to 2018’s hit animated film, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse as the Prowler. However, Glover won’t be one of the animated characters, as we are told his appearance will be in live-action.

Hobie Brown was the first name attached to the Prowler when Marvel introduced the character in 1969. Rick Larson and Aaron Davis have also played the villain in the comics, but we will likely see Donald Glover as the latter version. In the first Spider-Verse film, we saw Miles Morales’ uncle Aaron Davis in the role, who was the top enforcer for Kingpin in his sinister plans to take down Spider-Man and bring back his family.

The Prowler in Into The Spider-Verse

Donald Glover became associated with the Spider-Man franchise in 2010 when a campaign for him to play Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man arose. The role ultimately went to Andrew Garfield. But a few years later, Donald Glover joined the franchise in another role.

In 2015, Donald Glover was cast as Miles Morales, AKA Spider-Man, for the Disney XD animated series Ultimate Spider-Man. He only appeared as the beloved web-slinger for two episodes, but it reignited the calls for him to be cast as Spider-Man. Two years later, Glover officially joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the form of Aaron Davis, who is likely a take on the character we will see in Across the Spider-Verse.

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Homecoming introduced Glover as the character Aaron Davis, who comic fans know is the uncle of Miles Morales. In the movie, we see him as somewhat of a criminal, selling weapons to the baddies. Davis ultimately gives Spider-Man the information he needs, as he admits he doesn’t want the weapons to end up back in his nephew’s neighborhood.

It was a small but welcomed nod for fans of the actor, but it was also the only time Donald Glover would be seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date. We never got to see the actor suit up as the menacing Prowler, but with the Spider-Verse sequel premiering in a few months, it looks like we won’t have to wait much longer.

Prowler isn’t the only Marvel character Donald Glover will be taking on. It was confirmed in December by The Hollywood Reporter that the Atlanta actor will produce and star in an upcoming Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man movie. No title has been given yet, but the film will feature the comic villain known as Hypno-Hustler.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse releases on June 2, 2023. Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld), and Peter B. Parker (Jake Johnson) will return to their roles and be joined by a slew of new Spidey heroes and villains, including Donald Glover’s Prowler. And considering Miles watched his uncle, AKA the Prowler, die in the previous film, we can’t wait to see how the upcoming interaction plays out.

Furthermore, we hope that the Spider-Verse cameo may lead to Donald Glover’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in future projects with a much more significant role to play.
