Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness isn’t coming out until March 25, 2022, and even with five other Marvel films to come before it, Doctor Strange 2 is still one of the most anticipated films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even though the film is still in pre-production, rumors have been flying like crazy about this Phase 4 Marvel film. In the latest rumor for this much buzzed about film, there is a major hint at who could be the film’s main villain.
Twitter user @cosmic_marvel has unveiled what they claim to be the official synopsis for Doctor Strange 2:
Keep in mind that @cosmic_marvel doesn’t say how or where they received this news from, so it could just be nothing more than speculation about Doctor Strange 2 at this point. Yet if this is a legitimate synopsis, there are some interesting bits to gleam from this short description.
The first thing to note is the “friend-turned-enemy” line. There are two main theories so far as to who this could be. The more obvious choice would be Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo. At the end of 2016’s Doctor Strange, it was revealed that Mordo was in fact evil. Since Doctor Strange isn’t aware of this shift in allegiance, it would make sense that this would be covered in Doctor Strange 2.
Another theory is that the friend-turned-enemy could be Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch. Olsen is one of the leads for Doctor Strange 2, and the upcoming WandaVision series has been said to link directly to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Maybe Scarlet Witch will turn evil in the new series, and since the series will play with multiverses, there’s no telling what the future of this character could hold.
The other interesting tidbit hidden within this synopsis is that it is revealed that Strange himself is the one to unleash “unspeakable evil.” It seems unlikely that Strange would do this intentionally and is likely to be manipulated by whoever this friend-turned-enemy is. But again, the answers could come in another Disney+ series, as the Loki series will also die into Doctor Strange 2, and Loki is certainly known for trickery that could lead to something like this happening.
Outside of this latest rumor, another has popped up today as well, as people Googling “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness cast” have found a few surprises. It has been rumored that in the latest Spider-Man film, which will also star Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, we might see previous Spider-Men like Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. However, when one Googles the cast of Doctor Strange 2, they can see Maguire and Garfield listed in the cast.
Another surprise is that Ryan Reynolds – who would theoretically be playing Deadpool – is also shown as appearing in the Doctor Strange 2 cast. But this could simply be an error of Google’s algorithm that believes the rumors that Maguire, Garfield, and Reynolds will soon be appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
With WandaVision coming up on Disney+ soon, we might start getting more answers as to who the main villain in Doctor Strange 2. But if not, we’ll certainly know more before Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness releases on March 25, 2022.
