The fallout from Gina Carano being fired by Disney and Lucasfilm has begun and Disney+ is beginning to feel the heat over this unpopular decision as #CancelDisneyPlus is starting to trend.

Gina Carano, who played Cara Dune in the popular Disney Plus series The Mandalorian, is no longer employed by Disney for what they have deemed “abhorrent” social media posts. The conclusion to Carano’s Disney career came after Carano posted to her Instagram an image implying that being Republican today is akin to being Jewish during the Holocaust. The post, which was deleted not long after she posted it, was hit with an immediate #FireGinaCarano and though it was deleted by Carano, the post was captured by screenshots and reshared.

Lucasfilm responded quickly, “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future,” they said in a statement obtained from The Hollywood Reporter. “Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.” Not only was Carano fired from the Disney Plus series, The Mandalorian, but she was also dropped as a client by UTA, confirmed by an agency spokesperson.

This is not the first time that Carano has made headlines and drawn the wrath of social media for her musings. In November of last year, Carano showed her anti-mask side by posting a picture that held the caption, “Breaking News. Democratic Government Leaders Now Recommends We All Wear Blindfolds Along With Masks So We Can’t See What’s Really Going On.” She followed that up with a post suggesting voter fraud occurred during the 2020 presidential election. This, and many other controversial posts, have led a call for Disney to fire Carano from Disney Plus’ The Mandalorian.

Gina Carano’s posts of abhorrent and unacceptable behavior on social media reportedly also cost her her own spin-off show. There are now rumors that Carano was set to lead a new series on Disney Plus and the intent was to have Lucasfilm President announce it at the 2020 Disney Investor Day, but Carano’s questionable social media presence caused Disney Plus and Lucasfilm to back away. After months of controversial posts, her latest is what finally pushed things over the edge.

After Disney and Lucasfilm made the announcement, people took to Twitter to support the decision to fire Gina Carano.

There are also plenty who are backing up Gina Carano, going so far as to include the #CancelDisneyPlus hashtag, which is becoming quite popular.

While Gina Carano’s Instagram post shouldn’t come as a shock to all those who follow the former MMA star, it may be a bit surprising since it was recently reported by insider Daniel Richtman, via We Got This Covered, that Carano had offered an apology for her social media activity. Carano was supposedly doing so to save her spinoff Disney Plus series, but even if the actress did apologize, it wasn’t stopping her from continuing her offensive posts.
