As the hype for Marvel’s Fantastic Four builds up, fans have been speculating about who will play the leader of the titular team, Mr. Fantastic. In an interview with Kristian Harloff, which was published on Twitter, Andor‘s Diego Luna addressed the wild rumors about whether or not he has been cast in the iconic Marvel role and if he will accompany the host of big stars that are finally joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His response, as was probably expected, was extremely vague and lacked a concrete answer.

Diego Luna got his start in acting as a child in telenovelas on Mexican television. In 2002, he broke into American cinema when he starred next to Bon Jovi in Vampires: Los Muertos and played Alejandro in the Oscar-winning film Frida. However, it wasn’t until 2016, when he played Cassian Andor in the Disney Star Wars prequel, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, that Luna began to be recognized in popular culture.

Diego Luna reprised the role of Cassian in the Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire video game in 2017, and then once again for the Disney+ series Andor—a prequel to the Rogue One film. After its release in September this year, Andor immediately received high praise not only for being great Star Wars content but as one of the best shows of 2022. Despite the vast popularity Andor has received, series creator Troy Gilroy has promised that only two seasons of the series are planned, leaving fans to wonder what Luna might be doing after the show has been completed.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is, without a doubt, the biggest connected franchise to have ever been created for film and television. With 40 movies and series created based on Marvel comics so far, and two more phases planned from 2023 to 2026, it’s fair to wonder if Diego Luna plans to move from Star Wars to Marvel once Andor is completed. When considering the films that the MCU has announced, fans seem to think that Luna would be a great fit as Mr. Fantastic in the upcoming Fantastic Four, set to release in 2025.

When asked if Diego Luna would be interested in joining the MCU, the actor didn’t respond to the question directly. Instead, he acknowledged the sheer amount of content that is being created nowadays and said that all he can say about his work is that he is booked for the next two years, and he isn’t sure what he wants to do after he’s finished his current projects. Given Marvel’s tight-lipped tendencies, Luna’s answer could be taken either way—either he isn’t in Fantastic Four, or he is and can’t announce it yet, which is why his answer was so vague.

In addition to Diego Luna, fans have gone wild with their speculations of who might play Mr. Fantastic in the upcoming film. There have been rumors of Slumdog Millionaire’s Dev Patel taking on the lead role, fan casting of John Krasinski after his portrayal of an alternate universe Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and even fan art of Joseph Quinn from Stranger Things in a Fantastic Four suit.

While Marvel has yet to announce who was actually cast in the lead role, Fantastic Four will be released on February 14, 2025, so surely we will know soon enough.
