Denzel Washington To Receive Astonishing Honor
Denzel Washington is an Academy Award-winning actor, who has achieved massive success, and now he is set to receive an even bigger honor.
Denzel Washington is one of the best actors of our generation. The man has garnered two Academy Award wins and been nominated for an additional eight in his tenure. That’s also not counting the massive number of awards and nominations he has received from other governing bodies in the filmmaking industry. Now, the man is going to be receiving another prestigious honor. However, this one comes straight from the president of the United States. It has been announced that Washington will be officially receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is given to those who have given “an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.”
Denzel Washington will be receiving this high honor on July 7th by President Joe Biden, and he is the only entertainer that is set to receive this huge honor this year. Joining Washington are sports figures, Simone Biles, and Megan Rapinoe. Religious figures, Sister Simone Campbell, and Father Alexander Karloutsos. Political leaders, Gabrielle Giffords and Alan Simpson, and many more. Steve Jobs and John McCain are to be given this award posthumously. Washington can now add this huge honor to the growing list of accolades that he has received in his career. In addition to the previously mentioned Academy Award wins and nominations, he has also received a Tony award for Fences, and a Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the world of entertainment.
Denzel Washington is coming off his performance of Macbeth in The Tragedy of Macbeth, where he had been nominated for Best Actor. That award went to Will Smith for his role in King Richard, though he all but sullied that moment by slapping Chris Rock moments before he had been given the award. However, that is neither here nor there. Washington has been one of the most prolific actors for the better part of 40 years. He has given his life to the craft of acting, and he should be awarded as such. Earning a Presidential Medal of Freedom has got to feel amazing.
Denzel Washington is now set to a fan-favorite franchise, as he will once again take on the role of Robert McCall in The Equalizer 3. This film has only been announced, so it might take some time for it to get to theaters. We will also not find out who is set to join him in the film. The Equalizer 2 did pair the man with another fine actor, Pedro Pascal, so we might be seeing another big name added to the third film in the series. Either way, we are more than excited to see this film.
Although Denzel Washington lost out on his third Academy Award win this year, he is sure to garner more nominations soon. Though he is unlikely to receive a nomination for The Equalizer 3, we are excited to see what future roles are in store for the man. He has been in play adaptations twice in the past 5 years, so maybe he might return to those. Either way, it’s good to see the man honored so highly. His acting surely warrants such recognition.
