Marvel comic book fans were ecstatic to see several members of X-Force in 2018’s Deadpool 2… that is, until most of them were killed off after only a few minutes on screen. Now, one X-Force member has posted a cryptic tweet suggesting that he may appear in the next Deadpool movie. Not much has been revealed about Deadpool 3, but actor Lewis Tan seems to be implying that Shatterstar will come back for the third film.

A puzzling tweet by the Mortal Combat actor has sent fans into a frenzy as they try to decipher what it means. The tweet, which consisted of a series of the alien, sword, skull, and poop emojis followed by the hashtag, #Deadpool 3 has left Marvel fans wondering if Lewis Tan is hinting at Shatterstar’s return to the Deadpool franchise or if he is trolling.

In the Deadpool sequel, Tan played Shatterstar. The character, who is an alien swordsman, was recruited by the Merc with a Mouth (Ryan Reynolds) and inducted into the silver screen’s first X-Force. In one of the most tragic but hilarious scenes in the film, the X-Force sadly met their demise before the start of their first mission.

For the Deadpool film, Bedlam, Vanisher, Zeitgeist, Shatterstar, and good old, ordinary Peter were all recruited and then gruesomely killed in outrageous ways in the very next scene. Because Shatterstar was hacked into a million pieces by the blades of a helicopter and became a mulch of green goo, it would seem unlikely for the character to return for the film’s sequel.

However, in a scene during the credits, Deadpool uses a stolen time machine to go back and save Peter. While it doesn’t show Deadpool saving the other X-Force members, and it is assumed that he didn’t bother, it is possible that the Merc did save his other teammates off-screen.

There is another possibility of how Deadpool 3 can explain bringing back Shatterstar after his macabre ending. In 2018, Disney purchased the rights to Deadpool, making him an official Disney character, and 2024’s Deadpool 3 will be the film that inducts the Merc into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As the MCU prepares to release the Multiverse Saga, this means that any character from any Marvel comic is on the table, and nothing is impossible.

In fact, one of the only other characters to be confirmed at this time to be in Deadpool 3 is Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, so Shatterstar fans shouldn’t get their hopes up. After the emotional ending in James Mangold’s Logan, no one expected to see Jackman return as the character again, and yet, it’s happening. According to Reynolds, it was his dream to do a Deadpool/Wolverine movie, and having Jackman return for his signature role seemed too good to be true.

It was actually Jackman’s idea to reprise the character, and he was the one to call up Reynolds to see if they could make it happen. While the studio had to go through a bunch of red tape to get the proper rights for the characters, all seemed to have worked out, and Wolverine is expected to play a large role in Deadpool 3, with or without Shatterstar.

While it’s unclear if Tan’s tweet is an actual hint, a prank played by the actor, or simply wishful thinking, it isn’t preposterous to think that Deadpool 3 could feature Shatterstar or others X-Men characters
