Emma Corrin is having a fantastic week. On Monday, news broke that The Crown star had been cast in Robert Egger’s upcoming vampire tale Nosferatu, joining previously announced actors Nicholas Holt, Bill Skarsgard, and Willem Dafoe. Now, according to Variety, the 27-year-old performer has landed a prominent role in the hotly anticipated Deadpool 3.

Although their exact role has yet to be revealed, Corrin will reportedly play the primary villain opposite Ryan Reynolds’ Merc with the Mouth and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. Reynolds took to Twitter to celebrate casting news, tweeting, “New addition to the family! The Deadpool family, for clarity. Which is just like a real family except with less swearing…Welcome, Emma Corrin!”

While story details are extremely scarce at this time, we do know that Deadpool 3 will mark Reynolds’ first time playing Wade Wilson/Deadpool in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The previous two Deadpool movies were produced by 20th Century Fox as part of its now-defunct X-Men cinematic universe. Of course, the character made his motion picture debut in the much-maligned X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009.

Shawn Levy, who previously collaborated with Reynolds on Free Guy and the Netflix film The Adam Project, is directing Deadpool 3 from a script by Reynolds, Wendy Molyneux, Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The forthcoming installment in the blockbuster franchise will mark the first R-rated entry in the MCU. So far, all 31 movies in the ever-growing universe, including this month’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, have been rated PG-13.

In addition to Deadpool 3 marking Reynolds’ MCU debut as the snarky mercenary, fans are extremely excited for the sequel because Hugh Jackman will be returning as Wolverine. After seven appearances as the beloved character, including in 2017’s Logan where the hero clearly died, fans were over the moon when they learned Wolverine would be back for another outing.

When asked how the character is able to return in the forthcoming Deadpool installment, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said, “Anything’s possible in the multiverse.”

Deadpool 3 is expected to arrive in theaters on November 8, 2024, and it will serve as the first film in the MCU’s Phase 6. The story is said to follow a weary Wolverine recovering from his injuries, who comes across loudmouth Deadpool. The latter has time-traveled forward to heal his pal with the hope that they can team up to take down an enemy they both have in common.

Before Deadpool 3 kicks off Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Phase 5 will begin February 17 with Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania. The threequel finds Scott Lang, Hope Van Dyn, Hank Pym, and Janet Van Dyne exploring the Quantum Realm, where they interact with strange creatures and embark on an adventure that goes beyond the limits of what they thought was possible. Directed by Peyton Reed, the film stars Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Jonathan Majors, Kathryn Newton, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, Bill Murray, and Mike Wood.

On May 5, fans will witness the final outing of their favorite ragtag team of superheroes in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Then, The Marvels will serve as the last MCU entry of 2023. Next year, Captain America: New World Order and Thunderbolts will release during the summer, with Blade closing out Phase 5 of the MCU on September 6, 2024.
