As fans eagerly await what DC Studios will look like under James Gunn, they get a glimpse into possibilities for the future. In a recent article by ComicBook.com, it appears that rumors are spreading about Dave Bautista’s role in the new universe. The wrestling star stated that he would be down to play Lex Luthor in upcoming projects in the DC Universe.

It has long been speculated that Dave Bautista might play a part in DC Studios. His long-standing friendship with James Gunn made the collaboration seem likely. In the past, Dave hinted at his interest in playing the notorious supervillain Bane.

While the role of Bane is now not on his radar, Dave Bautista has his sights set on Superman’s infamous opponent Lex Luthor. With James Gunn confirming a new Superman movie in the works, we may get to see Dave in his new role sooner than we think.

Dave Bautista got his start as a professional wrestler with an extensive career stretching from 1999 to 2019. With multiple titles to his name, the wrestler-turned-actor has proven himself in the ring. He won an astounding 11 championships, including the World Heavyweight Championship four times.

In the early 2000s, he set his sights on acting. After being told by the WCW that it would never happen, Dave doubled down on his dreams for stardom. Amidst a successful wrestling career, in 2006 Dave Bautista began his acting journey.

He landed a few small guest-starring roles on popular television shows like Smallville, Neighbours, Chuck, and Relative Strangers. In 2010, he got the opportunity to work alongside Rob Van Dam and Marrese Crump in the action-packed film Wrong Side of Town. He got his big break in 2013 when he was cast as Brass Body in Universal Studios The Man with the Iron Fists

Since then, Dave Bautista has grown in popularity as an actor. He was able to pick up roles in Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy as Drax the Destroyer and Blade Runner 2049, both of which were critically acclaimed. He also had a role in the 2015 James Bond film Spectre where he played Mr. Hinx.

During his time working on Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Dave grew close with director James Gunn. He, along with other castmates, rose up to support the director in 2018 after he was fired from the franchise.

In November of 2022, James Gunn along with Peter Safran took over DC Studios. The pair has been tasked with refreshing the franchise after the cancellation of many anticipated projects, such as Wonder Woman 3

Since the two have taken over the studio, there has been much talk about what can be expected next. Longtime fans anxiously await to see what the new era for the studio will have in store. James Gunn has recently confirmed that he has been working on a new Superman script that aims to create a fresh take on the icon.

For now, fans will have to continue to wait until more is revealed about this new film. Meanwhile, we get to imagine what it might look like with Dave Bautista as the next Lex Luthor.
