Dave Bautista might be making a steady move out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor has been taking some higher-profile roles and has even recently hinted that he might not be around forever as Drax the Destroyer. And now it looks like he’s going to add another non-Marvel gig to his ever-growing resume. Movie Web has it that Bautista will team up with Daniel Craig in the upcoming sequel Knives Out 2 when it hits Netflix. The dude has shown the have a great combination of action and comedy chops making this pairing look pretty solid on paper early.

Knives Out 2 is setting up to be a different kind of sequel considering the ensemble nature of the first one. That one was a murder mystery focusing on Craig’s detective Benoit Blanc solving the murder of Harlan Thrombley. It was a massive, and somewhat surprising hit, that included a fantastic cast of stars like Jamie Lee Curtis, Chris Evans, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Ana de Mers, and many more. But because the story was a relative one-off, those folks won’t (likely) be joining this new production meaning they will need to stack a cast around Craig once again.

Dave Bautista joins the Knives Out now-franchise which just saw Rian Johnson and Daniel Craig sign a massive deal with Netflix to produce the next two films. Each will likely be its own story with Blanc at the center but does represent a huge commitment from the streaming platform for the next couple of films in the budding series. They forked over north of $450 million for the pleasure meaning these two are going to be staples of the platform for some time.

In this way, Dave Bautista fits right in considering the actor has his own star vehicle set to hit streaming screens in a couple of weeks. Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead will release on May 21st and is a zombie heist movie that centers around a group that’s planning a casino robbery in the middle of a zombie outbreak. Frankly, it looks pretty awesome, a perfect vehicle for a guy like Bautista whose massive physique seems to barely cover up a teddy bear-like personality. The film looks right up his alley.

Of course, these Netflix movies aside, one of the bigger questions facing Dave Bautista right now is what his future holds in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After taking a smaller part in Avengers: Endgame, he’s set to reprise his Drax the Destroyer role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 which will see James Gunn once again at the helm. But Bautista has been non-committal and maybe even a little frustrated with his role there. He recently said he’s only signed on for that movie and nothing more as it currently stands. He also threw shade on the idea of ever doing a Drax solo series on Disney+. So his time might be coming to the end.

But in other ventures, the future is bright for Dave Bautista. With this new Knives Out 2 casting, he’s joining another high-value production with key players like Rian Johnson at the helm. The work is coming in a big way for the actor and he could be putting Marvel in his rearview.
