No one could have guessed that Daniel Radcliffe would leave his career as Harry Potter and enter the world of pure superstardom, what is that superstardom? Playing Weird Al Yankovic in the biopic of his life. The upcoming biopic is called Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. There is no telling on whether or not the film will actually be factually true or if Weird Al will Weird Al his own life. Going the way of making his biopic a parody would certainly be on par for his personality. You can see Radcliffe in the Weird Al costume below:

What’s funny about these on-set images is that the costume looks to be as if someone ran to the store and found their best Weird Al costume for Halloween. This does not have the makings of a costume from an actual studio-made film, but this is truly how he dressed for most of his career. Again, this is pretty on par with how Weird Al’s personality is. He never took anything seriously. That’s not to mean that he wasn’t hard-working, only he made sure to be as ridiculous as possible. From the above images of Daniel Radcliffe in full costume, this film might certainly remain ridiculous throughout.

This isn’t actually the first time in which Weird Al has his life turned into a biopic. Funny or Die, a comedy channel started by funnyman Will Ferrel, made a biopic that showed a much darker Weird Al. Al was played by Aaron Paul, instead of Daniel Radcliffe, but the ridiculous nature of the trailer is something that is hopefully going to be present in this new biopic. Weird Al may not have gone through ups and down with drugs, sex, and everything rock and roll, but he can certainly make his life out to be that way. Think of Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, which is a play on Walk the Line, the biopic of Johnny Cash. Eric Appel wrote the Funny or Die skit has been tasked with writing the new biopic as well, alongside Weird Al.

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story might be aiming to make audiences laugh hysterically, and going the serious route would seem like an odd direction to go considering Weird Al has been nothing short of odd during his entire career. The funny thing is that his music is often overlooked considering that the majority of his songs are parodies of other musicians’ hits, but he’s had a top 40 song in every single decade since the 1980s. That has to count for something. This also could be why Daniel Radcliffe decided to take on the role.

The new Weird Al biopic is currently in production, but we are likely to not see the film until early 2023. The synopsis for the film promises to detail Weird Al’s meteoric rise to fame with early hits like “Eat it” and “Like a Surgeon” to his torrid celebrity love affairs and famously depraved lifestyle. None of this or all of it could be true. One thing is for sure, we can’t wait to see Daniel Radcliffe as Weird Al Yankovic.
