Filming for Knives Out 2 has officially started with new set photos showing off Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc and his new Mediterranean look. The sequel to Netflix’s 2019 smash hit remains a heavily guarded affair with almost no information about the plot available anywhere.

All we know is that the story will see detective Benoit Blanc taking on a new murder case. Daniel Craig was spotted on Monday, in Mykonos, Greece, filming scenes alongside new cast member Kate Hudson. Writing and directing duties for the film are in the capable hands of Rian Johnson.

Except for Daniel Craig, Knives Out 2 will feature a brand new star-studded cast including Edward Norton, Dave Bautista, Kathryn Hahn, Kate Hudson, Janelle Monae, Leslie Odom Jr., and Jessica Henwick. Netflix has yet to announce a release date for the movie, but the project remains one of the streaming giant’s top priorities.

Unfortunately, Knives Out 2 won’t be bringing back the Thrombey family but this was never the plan. Before the release of the original film, Johnson said that if it performed well he would adapt a film series, revolving around Daniel Craig’s character only. The stories would focus on Detective Benoit Blanc solving various mysteries new characters.

Knives Out was first released in theaters (and on Netflix) in November 2019. It was met with rave reviews from fans and critics. The film earned three Golden Globe nominations and an Oscar nod for Best Original Screenplay. The Daniel Craig starrer was also a smash hit at the box office, grossing over $311 million on its $40 million budget.

The story paid tribute to the celebrated works of Agatha Christie, following a modern-day murder mystery in which a famous crime novelist Harlan Thrombey is found dead at his estate the morning after his 85th birthday. The news sparks the interest of private detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) who decides to investigate. Weaving his way through the eccentric Thrombey family and devoted staff, Blanc must see through the intricate web of lies and red herrings to determine the truth about Harlan’s demise.

The film featured an all-star cast including Chris Evans, Christopher Plummer, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette, Katherine Langford, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, LaKeith Stanfield, and Ana de Armas.

Johnson is currently working on another sequel to Knives Out with Daniel Craig in the lead. In February, the director told Deadline he was looking forward to continuing detective Benoit Blanc’s story because he had such a great time working with Daniel.

With Greece tapped as the film’s primary location the story would find Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc wrapped up in a new mystery while on vacation. This would be in line with Agatha Christie’s collection of short stories, Murder in Paradise in which a detective investigates a group of people on vacation. Whatever direction Knives Out 2 takes it will be exciting to see if the new cast can replicate the chemistry of the original group which was a huge part of the film’s success.
