Netflix recently hit us with the trailer for Persuasion, their upcoming film adaptation of the Jane Austen novel of the same name. The movie stars Dakota Johnson, who breaks the first wall with her narration at the beginning of the trailer. The trailer seems like it will be a good mixture of comedy and drama in a period setting. Check out the trailer from Netflix below:

Persuasion tells the story of Anne Elliott (Dakota Johnson), a young woman living with her snobby family. Eight years after she was convinced not to marry the man of her dreams, he comes back into her life. The movie will see Anne struggling with conforming to the expectations of her family or choosing love and listening to her heart. In addition to Johnson, the movie will star Cosmo Jarvis, Henry Golding, Richard E. Grant, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Ben Bailey Smith, and more. Carrie Cracknell directs the script from Ron Bass and Alice Victoria Winslow. Interestingly, the YouTube commenters have strong reactions against the trailer, saying that the comedic tone and the feisty nature of Johnson’s character don’t match the source material. It remains to be seen if the film can win them over when it hits Netflix on July 15.

While the release of Persuasion certainly isn’t far away, we’ll be treated to a Dakota Johnson performance much sooner than that. Her film Cha Cha Real Smooth releases on Friday, June 17. The movie tells the story of a man working at a Bar Mitzvah party who becomes friends with a mother and her autistic daughter. The movie is written and directed by Cooper Raiff, who also stars alongside Johnson, Evan Assante, Vanessa Burghardt, Leslie Mann, Brad Garrett, Raul Castillo, and more. You can catch Cha Cha Real Smooth in theaters this weekend.

Dakota Johnson is set to have another project release in 2022 with Am I Ok? The movie is about two friends named Lucy and Jane. It will follow Lucy embarking on a personal journey that will test her friendship and her inner self. Johnson stars as Lucy with Sonoya Mizuno starring as Jane. Jermaine Fowler, Kiersey Clemons, Molly Gordon, Whitmer Thomas, Sean Hayes, Tig Notaro, and Odessa A’zion also star. Stephanie Allynne and Tig Notaro co-direct the script by Lauren Pomerantz.

One of Dakota Johnson’s biggest upcoming projects is Madame Web which will continue the up-and-down success of Sony’s Spiderverse films. Though Sony has found success with movies like Into the Spiderverse and Venom, they’ve also hit some lows with movies like Morbius. It remains to be seen if Madame Web will join the former or the latter films in its success level. It will star Johnson in the titular role, as a clairvoyant mutant. Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, Celeste O’Connor, and Tahar Rahim are also set to star. S.J. Clarkson will be directing the script by Kerem Sanga, Matt Sazama, and Burk Sharpless. Until then, make sure to check out Persuasion next month on Netflix if you want to see Dakota Johnson in a Jane Austen adaptation.
