Actress, Jorja Fox, took to Twitter today to confirm that she will not be returning to CSI: Vegas to reprise her role as Sara Sidle. In the tweet, Fox said that the choice came with “much deliberation.” She went on to say that “CSI has always been a love story” and that it has shown how “even in the darkest of places and times” love will always come out on top.

The actress leaves the series alongside her original costar, William Petersen. It sounds like their departures went hand in hand as in her tweet, the actress said, “I personally just can’t split Sara and Grissom up again.” The two also starred in the very first CSI franchise 21 years ago.

Though the news of CSI star’s exit will disappoint many fans, they can find solace knowing that CBS will be continuing on with the reboot’s second season. Newcomers to the series, Paula Newsom, Mel Rodriguez, Matt Lauria, and Mandeep Dhillon will all be back to reprise their roles. And with a fresh season will come new wild and gruesome crimes for the team of newbies to uncover.

The follow up of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: Las Vegas premiered on CBS in October 2021. Along with Jorja Fox and William Petersen, returning cast members, Wallace Langham and Paul Guilfoyle, also guest starred in the new series to once again step into their beloved roles. Expected to have only a 10 episode run, the series was such a hit that it announced a second season pick up in December 2021.

Outside of the crime scene world, Jorja Fox has held several prominent roles in iconic television shows such as ER and The West Wing. She also nabbed a part in the cult favorite, psychological thriller, Memento. All of the actress’s hard work and dedication to her craft paid off when in 2005, after being nominated three prior times, she and the rest of the CSI cast took home a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. During her down time, Fox does humanitarian and animal rights work with the Human Rights Campaign and PETA.

Along with Jorja Fox’s successful run on CSI, the franchise itself has been a juggernaut in the scripted crime genre. Over the years, there have been several other CSI series including CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, and CSI: Cyber. Because of the popularity of the entire franchise, each spinoff has created a ripple effect of even more content coming out in the form of books, video games, comics, and even movies.

Though we are beyond sad to see Jorja Fox take her leave from the fan favorite crime series, audiences were treated to a sweet and heartfelt moment during the season one finale back in December. As the minutes ticked down during the season finale, viewers looked on as a now married Gil (Petersen) and Sara (Fox) kissed each other. From a show that doesn’t feature many sentimental moments between couples, it certainly gave way to a collective “awe” as we bid farewell to two of CSI’s most legendary characters.
