Netflix announced that it is closing out the year 2021 the same way it began, with a new season of its hit Karate Kid spinoff, Cobra Kai

On Thursday, the streaming giant released the latest teaser trailer for the upcoming fourth batch of episodes of Cobra Kai. It revealed the show’s return date as December of 2021, meaning new episodes will indeed drop before the year comes to a close. In addition, the teaser trailer promised a return to a venue that’s very familiar to both Karate Kid and Cobra Kai purists — the All Valley Karate Tournament.

For those unfamiliar, the tournament was the place where Daniel La Russo first squared off against Johnny Lawrence (not counting the Halloween dance). After dispatching his dirty fighting opponent with his infamous Crane Kick, LaRusso made a lifelong enemy of both Lawrence and his sensei, John Kreese. But, thanks to Cobra Kai, the story didn’t stop there.

The third season of Cobra Kai saw Kreese return and left audiences in a somewhat intriguing spot. For the first time, Danny and Johnny were forced to join forces with their respective Miyagi-do and Eagle Fang dojos in an effort to finally take down Kreese and embarrass him at the tournament that he loves so much. Hopefully, the dynamic duo is able to put their many, many differences aside in order to beat down Kreese’s fighters and humiliate him the way Mr. Miyagi did at the beginning of Karate Kid 2. That was when he foolishly attacked the old man in the parking lot.

Unfortunately, Johnny and Daniel’s truce has a lot standing in its way other than the bad blood between them. Johnny’s son, Robby Keene, was defeated at the franchise’s first return to the All Valley Karate Tournament in Season 1 by Miguel Diaz, who now fights for Eagle Fang. Robby, meanwhile, felt wronged by his father and Daniel and now works with Kreese at Cobra Kai, mistakenly thinking as Johnny did years ago that the older sensei has his best interest in mind. Meanwhile, series creators Jon Hurwitz, Josh Heald, and Hayden Schlossberg previously told Deadline that fans can expect a lot more from the rivalry of Daniel’s daughter, Samantha LaRusso and her intense rivalry with Tory Nichols, which nearly came to an explosive conclusion in season 3.

That’s not all. In addition to Kreese coming back to wreak havoc on Danny and Johnny’s lives, Netflix announced in May that former Karate Kid 3 baddie, wealthy and scuzzy rich boy Terry Silver will make his return in season 4 of Cobra Kai. While he was previously an ally to Kreese, there’s no telling where his loyalties will lie after all these years.

After getting its start as a YouTube Original series, Netflix picked up Cobra Kai and brought it to new heights. Season 3 of the show surprised the world when it was nominated for an impressive six Emmy Award nominations, including the highly coveted outstanding comedy series. It also picked up some very worthy attention for its stunt coordination.
