Star Trek fans may have something to look forward to as Cirroc Lofton, known for his role as Jake Sisko in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, has expressed his desire to reprise the character. Lofton, who portrayed the son of Captain Benjamin Sisko for all seven seasons of DS9, recently spoke with Screen Rant about his hopes for returning to the Star Trek universe.

During the discussion, Lofton mentioned his interest in reprising the role of Jake Sisko in a Star Trek series or movie on Paramount+. While acknowledging that such decisions are beyond his control and lie with the “powers that be” in the Star Trek franchise, he stated that he would never close the door on the possibility of returning to the character. Lofton emphasized the importance of remaining open to possibilities, drawing inspiration from the themes of dreams and dreaming explored in Deep Space Nine.

Over the years, Cirroc Lofton and Jake Sisko have remained popular with fans, and the character has gained even more appreciation since the availability of streaming services like Paramount+. Fans have speculated about a potential return of Jake Sisko in various Star Trek series, such as a crossover with Star Trek: Lower Decks or even a presence in the 25th century depicted in Star Trek: Picard and its proposed spinoff, Star Trek: Legacy. Unfortunately, Jake Sisko has remained on the outskirts of the expanding Star Trek universe on Paramount+ for now.

However, there seems to be a growing momentum and support for Lofton’s comeback as Jake Sisko. Lofton co-hosts The 7th Rule, a Star Trek podcast that reviews episodes from Deep Space Nine and other Star Trek series, and his involvement with the popular podcast has allowed the actor to reconnect with Trek, even becoming popular among the current casts and creative teams behind Paramount’s Star Trek shows. If Lofton were to return, it is speculated that he could potentially lend his voice to an animated version of Jake Sisko in Lower Decks or Star Trek: Prodigy, or appear in live-action, possibly in Star Trek: Legacy

While Paramount hasn’t mentioned any plans to create this, Lofton himself expressed a preference to return in a full-blown Star Trek: Deep Space Nine reunion project.

While Lofton’s return as Jake Sisko is not yet confirmed and currently remains a dream in the back of Lofton’s mind, fans remain hopeful that the beloved character will make a comeback in the Star Trek universe sometime in the future. And it isn’t an inconceivable thought. Currently, streaming services everywhere are on a rampage to reboot as many classic shows as they can.

There is already a Harry Potter reboot in the works, as well as Twilight, The Lord of the Rings, and possibly even a Dawson’s Creek reboot happening soon.

While it seems unlikely that a Deep Space Nine reboot project will get greenlit considering how popular Star Trek has remained and how many spin-off shows have been in the works, it isn’t an unbelievable thought that Paramount might bring back fan-favorite characters to pay homage to past series, considering that they’ve done it before. As streaming services continue to breathe new life into classic shows, it is not inconceivable that Lofton may once again don the role of Jake Sisko, bringing joy to Star Trek enthusiasts around the world.
