Everyone is patiently waiting to see Thor: Love and Thunder, and the marketing team has been pumping out some fantastic footage that has excited fans even more. From trailers, TV spots, and behind-the-scenes action, we all can’t wait to see the return of Thor. More than that, people are even more excited to see Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher. Even despite the drama surrounding the character’s design, fans are clamoring to see Bale take on the MCU. In a recent interview, the perennial actor did speak about a scene that had been shot which might have been a bit too much for Marvel. According to Bale, “It was perhaps a little bit too extreme to be included in the film, but there was a lot of wonderful stuff that we shot. But you know that as an actor. You always know, hey, you’re going to experiment. Some things can work, some things don’t, and we want this to be a family film. My kids love it.”

The scene in question contains some light Thor: Love and Thunder spoilers, so if you would like to not know anything about the film apart from the trailers, quit reading immediately. Gorr is a bit of a religious fanatic, as are most of the crazed villains in the MCU. So, there is an instance where he essentially mutilates himself to free himself of his religious bonds. Christian Bale spoke about the scene in detail. He added, “He’s [Gorr] a highly religious character at the beginning with tattoos displaying his piousness, and then he becomes disillusioned with that, and then literally just mutilates himself to get rid of that.” Apparently, a villain cutting off their own skin is a bit too extreme. Though we have seen some brutal moments in the MCU, Doctor Strange 2 did have a murder spree, and Disney might have intervened and put an end to mutilation.

Quite honestly, Taika Waititi wanting to put in a brutal moment like the one Christian Bale explained isn’t his style. That’s not to say they didn’t go about it in a more artful way, but Thor: Ragnarok was a bit too light-hearted to involve such a dark moment, and that might be the case for Thor: Love and Thunder. Still, Bale is a wonderful actor that probably made that scene horrible and beautiful all at the same time. We might even see the scene end up on the home release for when Love and Thunder comes out. Either way, we are just excited to see what kind of menacing figure Bale is bringing with his take on Gorr the God Butcher.

Thor: Love and Thunder might be the end of Chris Hemsworth as Thor, at least, that is what has been rumored. He thanked fans on his Instagram for the wonderful journey, and Jane Foster is holding Mjolnir in the film. Though in the comics she is The Mighty Thor only briefly, the premise of Love and Thunder seems to be Thor’s disconnect with fighting and wanting to find out who he really is. Hemsworth leaving the character behind is just speculation, but it could happen considering many of the Avengers have now moved on. Hopefully, Christian Bale makes it past this film as well.

Thor: Love and Thunder comes crashing into theaters on July 8th, meaning we only have eight days left until we finally get to see Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman, Taika Waititi, Chris Pratt, and so many more come together for the next epic MCU journey. We can’t wait to see what happens next, and which huge cameos are going to be shown.
