A Controversial Influencer Just Got Their Show Renewed
A controversial influence and celebrity just had a very popular show renewed and this has been something of a surprise hit.
Controversial influencer Chrissy Teigen will be back for a third season of Chrissy’s Court. The series, modeled after Judge Judy and The People’s Court, will be returning exclusively to the Roku Channel this fall. Each unscripted episode sees the television personality preside over one small-claims case. The plaintiffs, defendants, and disputes are real, with final and binding decisions. The show also features the former model’s mom as the bailiff who maintains order in the court.
According to Variety, the second season of attracted more unique views than other unscripted Roku original launches during its opening weekend. The series also was the number one VOD program in the United States by unique views from June 17-19 this year. The new 10-episode season promises to be better than its predecessor, with wilder cases and people who are more fun than ever. The show is set to premiere on October 21st.
While she has managed to maintain a successful career, Chrissy Teigen has become a rather controversial figure following renewed complaints about cyberbullying in 2021. Television personality Courtney Stodden said the reality show star tweeted and privately messaged them urging them to kill themselves. The incidents occurred during their marriage as a minor to actor Doug Hutchison in 2011. The 36-year-old eventually apologized to Stodden, saying she was sad and mortified at her past self, whom she described as “an insecure, attention-seeking troll” via Glamour.
Although Stodden accepted Chrissy Teigen’s apology, they deemed it a shallow attempt to save her business partnerships. A month later, John Legend’s wife released another apology in a lengthy blog post admitting to cyberbullying. This time, it was followed by fashion designer Michael Costello and television personality Farrah Abraham recalling being targets of her attacks. Costello even shared screenshots of the taunting messages via Entertainment Weekly. After the influencer stated that the messages had been faked, the designer said he had evidence to verify his claims.
To do some damage control, Chrissy Teigen gave her first live interview on Today, addressing her past behavior and marking 100 days of sobriety. Speaking to Hoda Kotb at the time, the social media personality explained that she had been drinking frequently and realized she needed a reset. “I’m a hundred days sober today and I’m so excited,” she said. “I feel so good, I feel very clear-headed. I feel like I’ve done the work and I just hope these people can forgive and be able to welcome the fact that hopefully, they’ve seen me be better.”
Fortunately, the controversy seems to have calmed down and her career is back on track. Along with Chrissy’s Court, Teigen has also worked as a host and judge on several other reality series. This includes Bring the Funny, FABLife, and Lip Sync Battle. She has also worked on cookbooks and cooking content with her mom Pepper Thai. Chrissy’s Court, which was originally created for the now-defunct Quibi streaming app, is executive produced by Luke Dillon, Jane Lipsitz, Dan Cutforth, Dan Volpe, and Mason Steinberg. The show is also produced by Teigen’s Suit & Thai Productions, 3 Arts Entertainment, and Alfred Street Industries.
