Sometimes just showing up on the wrong list is enough to get you trending with significant online social media backlash. That seems to be what happened with Chris Pratt this week with the actor included on a list of conservative Hollywood types. Just the mere mention of his name alongside some other actors and actresses that might trend Republican was enough to get some folks frothy about his stances or beliefs.

The original Tweet came from author Brigitte Gabriel who decided to make a list of people she deemed to be Hollywood conservatives, claiming that this group was “better” than the more liberal side of Hollywood (which admittedly is about all of it). Chris Pratt made it near the top of her list with others Tom Selleck, Jon Voight, James Woods, Scott Baio, Mel Gibson, and Chuck Norris appearing there as well. And there were others. Check out what Gabriel had to say:

Predictably, and probably purposefully, Gabriel’s tweet had the effect of those wanting to push back against the idea of some having a different set of political leanings. Chris Pratt landed in the social media crosshairs because of it, with plenty of folks out there happy to take a potshot or two about where he might stand among the Hollywood elite. Some of the responses, while maybe misguided, are at least a little bit funny

But there were plenty of people who came to the defense of Chris Pratt, claiming that him getting dragged for just being on some random list didn’t really pass the muster. In a pre-canceling of sorts, folks jumped in to explain how not only was he possibly mislabeled around his political beliefs, but that he was also one of the nicer guys around. This latter point was by way of explaining that even if someone has a different political stripe, it doesn’t mean they are necessarily some kind of evil entity.

In this day and age of cancel culture, sometimes it doesn’t take much to get the ball rolling. That being said, this doesn’t seem like it will really do the trick. For starters, looking at this original list and one can see that Chris Pratt is about as in-demand as anyone on there. He is just coming off The Tomorrow War on Amazon which is already gearing up for a sequel. And that is far from all of it. He is set to reprise his role as Owen Grady in Jurassic Park: Dominion which is currently in post-production. Plus there is the next Guardians of the Galaxy movie which will have James Gunn back in the director’s chair. Might he die in that one as some have suggested? We will have to wait and see about that.

In all, a list of conservative Hollywood folks is sometimes enough to get a name trending, but unlikely to do much else. Chris Pratt is among the most sought-after talents in the business these days, and in this case, his purported political leanings are unlikely to change that. We might see him trending for negative reasons, but we will see him plenty on the big screen as well.
