Chris Pine revealed that he wants to reprise his role as Nicholas Devereaux in The Princess Diaries 3. As reported by MovieWeb, the Wonder Woman star told ET at the Hollywood premiere of Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves that he is ready to return to Genovia. “Yeah, I’m here! I’m here for it. Give me a phone call or an email,” Pine said.

Chris Pine made his feature film debut in 2004’s The Princess Diaries 2: The Royal Engagement, playing the charming but complicated love interest opposite Anne Hathaway. As Hathaway races against the clock to find a husband in order to retain her right to the throne of Genovia, her feelings for Devereaux are complicated by his involvement in a plot to take over the throne.

Love prevails in the film, and fans of Anne Hathaway, Chris Pine, and the zany cast of The Princess Diaries have long been waiting to check in with the royal family of Genovia. A sequel has been in the works for several years, but the passing of franchise director Garry Marshall in 2016 halted the third film.

It was reported last November that Disney is officially working on the sequel again, and Anne Hathaway and Chris Pine have been vocal about their desire to return to the world of The Princess Diaries. Julie Andrews has noted her skepticism about returning, but no official casting details have emerged.

With Chris Pine expressing his excitement to return to the franchise, The Princess Diaries 3 is gaining even more steam. Pine was relatively unknown when he appeared in The Royal Engagement, but he has since built a career as an A-lister with films like Wonder Woman, Into the Woods, and most notably, a trilogy of Star Trek films.

If Chris Pine does return for The Princess Diaries 3, he will have to do so while navigating a heavy production schedule. The actor will lend his voice to two animated projects this year, Disney’s Wish and a feature-length Robot Chicken movie. He is also at work wrapping up his directorial debut, the mystery comedy Poolman, which stars Pine, Danny DeVito, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Annette Bening, and Ray Wise.

Chris Pine would also have to balance The Princess Diaries 3 with Newsflash, a biographical drama that puts Pine in the role of Walter Cronkite as the newsman reports on the Kennedy assassination in 1963. Pine is also on the hook for a fourth Star Trek film, which has infamously been in development limbo since Star Trek Beyond debuted in 2016.

Anne Hathaway and Chris Pine have led remarkable careers since their 2004 team-up in The Princess Diaries 2, and seeing them reunited could be fun. Though there is much interest in the project from fans and the filmmakers involved, Hathaway stated that the team does not want to move forward without the script being just right.

The Princess Diaries films are part of the great legacy of the late director Garry Marshall. He is known for iconic films like A League of Their Own, Pretty Woman, and Raising Helen. His work often featured women in leading roles. As Anne Hathaway, Chris Pine, and the rest of the Princess Diaries team reunite, they have a lot to live up to. But years of experience and anticipation are on their side, giving The Princess Diaries 3 a chance to be the franchise’s crowning achievement.
