Chris Pine says he wants to return for Star Trek 4 and other movies in the franchise. The actor made the revelation while answering the web’s most searched questions for Wired alongside Hugh Grant and Michelle Rodriguez. When presented with the phrase, “How many Chris Pine Star Trek?” the 42-year-old said he has starred in three films to date.

When given the second phrase, “What made Chris Pine famous?” he immediately responded with Star Trek. “The first one,” he continued, explaining that paparazzi were outside his apartment during the first week of its release. “I was living on Silverlake Boulevard. That was a very eye-opening experience,” he added.

Chris Pine was only 27 years old when he was cast as Captain Kirk in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek. He returned to the role for Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Trek Beyond. In 2022, the Wonder Woman star told the Happy Sad Confused podcast that it would be very cool to play the iconic Star Trek character for a long time. “It’s super cool. I love the idea.”

“It’s very rare to get a chance to play one character over the course of your career. If I had the chance to do that, I think it would be so cool. So hopefully we get to do it,” Chris Pine added about potential Star Trek movies. Although a fourth movie has already been announced, the actor says he doesn’t know much about it.

“I think reporters think that we know more than we’re saying. “And honestly, none of us know anything. I haven’t seen a script,” Chris Pine said about Star Trek 4. He explained that all the cast knows for sure is that there will be a fourth movie in the franchise. However, he feels it would be premature to say anything more because there’s no official information.

Despite Chris Pine’s optimism, Star Trek 4 has faced several setbacks and delays following its announcement in 2015. Paramount Pictures initially hoped to get most of the original cast back, including Zachary Quinto as Spock. However, talks fell through with Chris Hemsworth, who was supposed to reprise his role as George Kirk in the film.

Speaking to Variety in 2019, the Marvel star said he didn’t want to be underwhelmed by the project. “I didn’t feel like we landed on a reason to revisit that yet.” Quentin Tarantino wanted to develop a Star Trek movie based on an Original Series episode called “A Piece of the Action,” but he abandoned the project in 2019.

Additionally, Matt Shakman was supposed to direct the Chris Pine-led Star Trek 4, but he stepped down from the project to work on Marvel’s Fantastic Four reboot. But it’s not all bad news for fans, as the franchise is enjoying a robust presence on television, even if some of them are reruns.

Moreover, Chris Pine has appeared in several film and television projects beyond his work on Star Trek. He gained critical acclaim for portraying a Coast Guard captain in the 2016 disaster film The Finest Hours. He will next be seen in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, directed by Jonathan Goldstein.

The story follows a group of unlikely adventurers who embark on a quest to find a relic before it falls into criminal hands. But their journey takes an unexpected turn when they run into the wrong people. Led by Chris Pine of Star Trek fame, the movie will hit theaters on March 31st.
