Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince/Wonder Woman has been one of the mainstays of the DC Cinematic Universe ever since she came in with the assist against Doomsday alongside Batman and Supes. In her first Wonder Woman solo film her love interest Steve Trevor, portrayed by Chris Pine, quickly became a fan favorite. In fact, he was so well-liked that they brought him back from the dead for the sequel. Now fans are wondering if they’ll bring him back again for the third movie of the trilogy. According to Pine himself…probably not.

In a new interview with USA Today, Chris Pine was asked about his possible reappearance as the character. He replied, “I think poor Steve is dead, but I wish them all the best on the third one.” That’s pretty definitive, but you never know. With all the multiverse shenanigans that are en vogue in superhero movies now, he could always come back as a variant of the character. There’s even precedence in the comics.

Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor was last seen in Wonder Woman: 1984. While that movie wasn’t a critical darling by any means, the performances of the lead actors weren’t to blame. After dying in Wonder Woman, Steve Trevor is wished back to life in the sequel. Near the end of the movie, he convinces Diana to renounce her wish to finish the final battle with her full strength. This action kills Steve again, so it would be pretty weird if he was resurrected for a second time.

However, fans can at least look forward to a beloved actress making an appearance in the third movie. Lynda Carter, who portrayed Wonder Woman in the 1970s television series, made a cameo as the legendary Amazonian warrior Asteria at the end of Wonder Woman: 1984. She’s set to have a much bigger role in the third outing. Gal Gadot will be returning as well and Patty Jenkins will direct again.

While Chris Pine might be leaving the DC Universe, he probably is glad for the free time. He has a ton of projects on his plate in the near future. He also has a movie in theaters right now called The Contractor, where he plays a discharged U.S. Special Forces operative.

After that, he has a film set to come out in 2022 called All the Old Knives where he plays a CIA operative alongside Thandiwe Newton. The movie also stars Laurence Fishburne. 2023 is set to be an even bigger year for Chris Pine. He’s set to star in a film adaptation of the famous Dungeons & Dragons tabletop game. Perhaps what fans are looking forward to most is his reprisal of Captain James T. Kirk in the next Star Trek movie. This will be our first Star Trek movie since 2016’s Star Trek Beyond. Much of the reboot cast is expected to return.

So, although Chris Pine won’t be doing too much superhero work in the near future, there is still plenty to look forward to. In the meantime, you can get tickets to The Contractor now if you’re wanting to see his latest silver screen effort.
