Chris Hemsworth Wants To Return To Star Trek

Chris Hemsworth said that he would be up for returning to Star Trek in the future. Is there any way this would even be possible?

With the potential for a Star Trek 4 coming down the pike with Chris Pine and the Kelvin folks, more and more is coming out around the group that rebooted the franchise on the big screen in 2009. It’s been announced that there is another movie coming for this crew, though details are still few and far between. That being said, there’s at least one person from that reboot movie who’d like another crack at the Star Trek franchise. And that would be none other than Chris Hemsworth who briefly appeared in the first film. Would it be easy to work him back in the mix? Not at all. But the actor seems to have a great affinity for the franchise and what it did for his career. If given the chance, he’d be game to get back into the George Kirk role.

Chris Hemsworth did an interview with Vanity Fair in which he broke down the timeline of his career. It’s an interesting chronological look at just how the actor’s time in Hollywood has shaken out, and near the beginning, he discussed his role as George Kirk, the father to Captain James T. Kirk in Star Trek. While not the first acting role for Hemsworth, it was easily his biggest, crediting the movie (rightfully so) with jumpstarting his career and landing him the Thor gig in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While talking about his time on Star Trek, Hemsworth also intimated that he’d be up for a return to the universe if J.J. Abrams thought it could work. Check out what Chris Hemsworth had to say, the Star Trek thoughts are in the first couple of minutes.

You can see that Chris Hemsworth would be up for a George Kirk return in Star Trek saying, “If J.J. Abrams called me tomorrow and said ‘Chris Pine and I want to do it,’ I’d probably say ‘Yeah, let’s go for it!” Now, this is probably easy to say because there’s almost no way it would ever happen. That’s because though Chris Hemsworth got his start in Star Trek, the George Kirk character didn’t last all that long.

In the beginning of Star Trek, George Kirk is Captain of the USS Kelvin when it is attacked by Nero’s ship. Hemsworth as Kirk sacrifices himself and the ship in an effort to ensure his wife and baby are safe from the attack. This baby, of course, ends up being James T. Kirk, played by Chris Pine in this timeline and William Shatner originally. Working Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth into another Star Trek story would feel impossible. But there are always flashbacks, and this group hasn’t been shy about time travel either. So I suppose anything is possible.

And it’s not like Chris Hemsworth isn’t busy or anything these days. Far from it. The dude would appear to have more than he can handle on the big screen, though he does thank Star Trek for making that possible. He’s got a number of high-profile movies coming down the pike. The first is Escape from Spiderhead which releases this week in the United States. In it, Hemsworth will play a scientist performing all manner of studies on a group of unsuspecting folks. Miles Teller and Jurnee Smollett also star.

And then, of course, there’s Thor: Love and Thunder which is coming out on July 8th and, from the trailers, looks every bit a perfect followup to Ragnarok which reset this character’s franchise in a fantastic way. Plus, don’t forget Extraction 2 which will bring Tyler Rake back to Netflix in short order. So this guy’s got more than enough going on even without a potential return to Star Trek.
