As Marvel Studios prepares to launch Thor: Love and Thunder, the cast is doing their share of interviews to ramp up the excitement. As expected, all sorts of questions come up during these outings. So when BBC Radio 1’s Ali Plumb asked Chris Hemsworth if he plans to beat Hugh Jackman’s record for the longest time spent playing a superhero, his answer was pretty epic. “I wasn’t gonna but now that you’ve put that in front of me, you make a good point,” he explained. “It’s only six years, I’ve come this far. To turn back now would just be a waste.”

It’s been 11 years since Chris Hemsworth made his Marvel Cinematic Universe as the God of Thunder in Thor. Released as part of Phase One, the movie was a hit with fans earning a phenomenal $449.3 million worldwide. Critics were also kind to the film, praising the performances, characters, themes, and special effects. Since then, the 38-year-old has reprised the role seven times – as part of the Avengers ensemble films and in solo offerings, Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok. Love and Thunder will be the first time an original Avenger has received a fourth solo movie in the MCU.

Chris Hemsworth’s Australian counterpart, Hugh Jackman catapulted to superstardom when he debuted as Wolverine in 2000’s X-Men. The actor quickly became synonymous with the role, portraying the adamantium skeletoned character with a fierce pathos that captivated audiences around the world. The 53-year-old went on to portray Wolverine nine more times in the mutant franchise (figure includes the X-Men: First Class cameo) over 17 years. He even holds the Guinness World Record of “Longest Career as a Live-Action Marvel Superhero.”

To break the record, Chris Hemsworth has six more years to go. But that timeframe isn’t too long in Marvel years. If Kevin Feige’s plans for Phase Four follow the same blueprint as the first three blocks of movies, Thor should appear in several upcoming MCU films. Only time will reveal which projects those will be. Although, the actor did express minor interest in Deadpool 3, just to bother Hugh Jackman. When BBC Radio 1 mentioned how the Ghostbusters alum better hope his counterpart doesn’t cameo in the Ryan Reynolds-led film, he playfully said he’ll make some calls to prevent it. “I’ll put myself in Deadpool instead”, he joked.

Thor: Love and Thunder will be released in theaters on July 8th. The story follows Thor (Chris Hemsworth) as he tries to find inner peace after the events of Avengers: Endgame. But his spiritual reinvigoration is interrupted when Gorr the God Butcher reveals his plan to eliminate all Gods. To prevent this catastrophe, he recruits Valkyrie, Korg, and Jane Foster, who has become the Mighty Thor, to help him save the nine realms.

Taika Waititi directed the project from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. Thor: Love and Thunder will be the 29th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Starring alongside Chris Hemsworth is Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, and Tessa Thompson. Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Jaimie Alexander, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, and Jeff Goldblum also appear in supporting roles. Russell Crowe will make a cameo appearance as Zeus, the King of the Olympians.
