A live-action Powerpuff Girls isn’t the first film adaptation you’d think we see, but this is a new world when it comes to popular cartoons hitting the screen with new actors. And in this way, nearly everything is on the table when it comes to getting new content up on the screen. And that’s the case with this cartoon, which will get its own “real world” look soon. We have a chance to see what two of the stars, Chloe Bennet and Dove Cameron look like in the roles.

You can see from the shots that we are getting a grown-up version of Powerpuff Girls with the theme being around what happens when the group gets a little bit older. In this sense, we see both Chloe Bennet and Dove Cameron rocking the pastel colors of the original show though decidedly more mature and older than what we got with that cartoon. Bennet is in the pink dress and Cameron is in the light blue. Also pictured and rounding out the trio is Yana Perrault in the green.

In the new CW series Powerpuff, the three women will play adult versions of the popular cartoon. They will have the same names as the “originals” though we catch up with them later in life when they are a bit scarred and “disillusioned” from all those elementary-aged years fighting crime. Dove Cameron will play Bubbles, Chloe Bennet is Blossom and Yana Perrault is Buttercup. The show is set to catch up with them roughly 20 years after the events of the cartoon when they were kindergarten-aged crimefighters who also dealt with the mundanity of elementary school. Now, having been mini-retired they are called to get back into the action.

We could see Dove Cameron, Chloe Bennet, and company overlapping some with the Arrowverse on the CW as well. The show is looking like it will exist within that universe and we could even see some early overlap with characters like Grant Gustin’s the Flash

As for Dove Cameron and Chloe Bennet, the two actresses are pretty busy these days. For starters, it looks like Bennett is doing superhero double-duty. In addition to playing Blossom in this show, she’s also planning on returning as Quake in the Marvel Universe. There’s talk that the character will move from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. into the current Disney+ series of shows that exist on the platform now that Marvel owns the catalog.

Meanwhile, while Chloe Bennet is pulling superhero duties, Dove Cameron is going to be on the crimefighting tip in her next movie as well. She won’t be reprising her Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. role, but in Vengeance, she’ll be starring alongside Ashton Kutcher in a crime thriller. So these two have a ton in the works besides just donning the pastel dresses and getting to work.

Powerpuff girls, in live-action form, could have just devolved into a very silly venture, but it looks like there will be just a little grit to it. In addition to Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron, and Yana Perrault going with the adult versions of the characters, Diablo Cody is also one of the head writers for the program. Production just began earlier this month on the show and it’s set to debut in early 2022.
