They’re back and somehow more terrifying than ever! After facing a three-year-long slowdown, the revamped big-screen adaptation of Stephen King’s classic horror short story Children of the Corn is on its way to cinemas on March 3, 2023. Giving us a peek at the eeriness and bloodshed waiting around the next row of corn, a trailer has been released, which you can see below.

Sure, unhinged artificial intelligence dolls like M3GAN are all the rage right now, but do you know what’s even more terrifying? Bloodthirsty children who are hell-bent on revenge. The Children of the Corn trailer introduces us to a new group of terrifying kiddos who have taken over a town and are actively imprisoning, torturing, and murdering all the adults still standing.

Directed by Kurt Wimmer (Equilibrium, Ultraviolet), Children of the Corn centers around a town that’s lost its main source of income – corn. In one of the town’s many dying corn fields, a 12-year-old girl named Eden (Kate Moyer) becomes possessed and enlists the rest of the children to rise up against their parents and the other adults who let the main export vanish. On a spree of terror and vengeance, Eden cuts down all who oppose her and rules with a brutal iron fist. The town’s only hope of survival is a local teenager (Elena Kampouris) who has the guts to stand up to the demonic leader.

Also starring in Children of the Corn are Callan Mulvey (Avengers: Endgame) and Bruce Spence (The Road Warrior). RLJE Films and Shudder are releasing the film which will slice its way into theaters on March 3, 2023, for a limited 18-day run. Following its time in the cinema, the horror flick will make its way onto demand and digital on March 21, 2023.

First receiving a feature-length film adaptation in 1984, Stephen King’s novel Children of the Corn became an instant classic for fans of the famed author’s work, which had been preceded in cinematic form by greats including The Shining, Carrie, Cujo, and Salem’s Lot. While the latest version will feature a young girl as the main antagonist, the original starred John Franklin as spooky children’s cult leader Isaac Chroner who led his peers into the slaughtering of the town’s adults. Judging by the trailer, Wimmer and his team have changed much from the original Fritz Kiersch-helmed feature.

Other than the exchange of a young boy leading the terrorizing pack for Eden, the main characters attempting to put an end to the child cult’s reign of terror in the original telling are two adults, Burt Stanton (Peter Horton) and Vicky Baxter (Linda Hamilton), who accidentally stumble upon the carnage while passing through the town. The original Children of the Corn also saw only one remaining adult – a gas station owner – at the top of the film, whereas in the trailer for the reboot, it appears as though some adults have been kept alive.

Backed by a loyal following, the upcoming Children of the Corn will be the eleventh installment of the franchise. And, judging by its ability to spawn multiple off-shoot features and remakes, audiences will be excited to see the latest retelling of the classic horror flick. Check out the trailer at the top.
