See The Cast Added To The 1923 Yellowstone Spinoff
James Badge Dale and six other actors have been added to the cast of Yellowstone: 1923.
We’ve now got a good look at the upcoming cast for the Yellowstone spin-off 1923. Deadline Hollywood tweeted images of the expanding Dutton family with James Badge Dale, Darren Mann, Marley Shelton, Michelle Randolph, Brian Geraghty, Aminah Nieves, and Julia Schlaepfer all headed to the ranch. The new cast joins the previously announced stars Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren who play the patriarch and matriarch of the Duttons. Sebastian Roche was also previously announced as a cast member for the upcoming spinoff.
As with previous entries to the Yellowstone franchise, 1923 comes to us from creator Taylor Sheridan, who will be depicting a previous era of the Duttons and their Yellowstone Ranch. This generation of Duttons will have to deal with problems like Prohibition, pandemics, the Great Depression, drought, and continued Western expansion. Along with the newly announced cast, Paramount+ provided Deadline with character descriptions for the new characters.
From the descriptions, we learn that Ford and Mirren are playing Jacob and Cara Dutton, the husband and wife who are running the Yellowstone Ranch during this era. James Badge Dale will be playing John Dutton Sr, Jacob’s nephew and right-hand man. Marley Shelton plays his wife Emma and Darren Mann plays their son Jack. Michelle Randolph will be playing a woman marrying into the Dutton family named Elizabeth. Brian Geraghty plays a ranch foreman, Aminah Nieves plays a woman at a government residential boarding school, and Julia Schlaepfer plays a British woman. It’ll be interesting what role all of these 1923 characters play in the Dutton family history.
While 1923 doesn’t have a release date yet, fans of the mothership series can look forward to Yellowstone’s return on November 13. The Kevin Costner starring series is entering its fifth season and many of the main cast are returning, including Kelly Reilly, Luke Grimes, Wes Bentley, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille, Brecken Merrill, Gil Birmingham, Piper Perabo, and Jacki Weaver. Kathryn Kelly also joins the cast as a vet technician and Kai Caster joins as a cowboy named Rowdy. The series will likely continue to follow John Dutton’s bid for governor of Montana as the Duttons look to continue to gain power in the area. The fifth season is set to be a long one, with the season being split into two seven-episode mini-seasons. The first half is airing this winter with the second half set to air in 2023.
Of course, if you can’t wait for more Yellowstone, you can always revisit the first four seasons on the Peacock platform. Weird streaming rights deals make it so the back catalog of Yellowstone isn’t available on Paramount+. However, you can watch the Yellowstone spin-off Yellowstone: 1883 which throws you back even farther in the past to when the Duttons first crossed the Great Plains and settled in Montana. Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, and Sam Elliot starred in the critically-acclaimed prequel series. Fortunately, once 1923 comes out you should be able to watch that on Paramount+ too. While it might be a little wonky to have multiple streaming platforms to have access to all of Yellowstone’s content, it’s the only way right now to get access to everything the Dutton family has to offer.
