See Casey Anthony Try To Sway Public Opinion In The Trailer For Her Upcoming Docuseries
Casey Anthony has a new documentary being released on Peacock.
The 2011 trial of Casey Anthony was one of the most controversial and talked-about legal events of the year, attracting national attention to the case. Now, over a decade after the contentious verdict, the streaming platform Peacock is releasing Casey Anthony: Where the Truth Lies. Casey Anthony: Where the Truth Lies will be a three-part limited docuseries that interviews Anthony about the trial, verdict, investigation, and the media attention around it (via Variety).
For those who missed it, in 2011 Casey Anthony was tried and acquitted for the capital murder charge of her two-year-old daughter, Caylee Anthony. The case was a national spectacle, especially when Anthony was found not guilty. The public opinion of Anthony remains negative to this day, so it’s not too surprising that Peacock is digging up interest all these years later.
Casey Anthony: Where the Truth Lies is directed by Alexandra Dean, who also serves as showrunner. Tamra Simmons, Ebony Porter-Ike, Laura Michalchyshyn, and Sam Sniderman serve as executive producers with Chanel Hudson-O’Connor and Katie Turley-Molony serving as co-executive producers. The series comes from Blue Ant Studios.
While Casey Anthony: Where the Truth Lies will feature extensive interviews with Anthony telling her side of the story, Dean made sure to mention that she has no editorial control or say in the final product. Dean also mentions that what Anthony says is the interviews is weighed against potential evidence and that the docuseries may cause people to “look at this story in a new light.” The docuseries will also feature archival footage from Anthony herself along with behind-the-scenes looks.
Presumably, the documentary will take a journalistic approach since Casey Anthony has no creative or editorial control over the docuseries. Meaning Anthony will be free to give her story however she sees fit and the production team will make sure to give the other side of the story too. It seems unlikely that the docuseries will try and sway opinion in any one direction and will likely leave it up to the viewers to come to their own conclusions.
Casey Anthony: Where the Truth Lies will be the latest effort from Alexandra Dean, whose previous directorial projects include Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story, This is Paris, and Secrets of Playboy. Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story put a biographical lens on actress and inventor Hedy Lamarr while This is Paris did the same for Paris Hilton. Meanwhile, Secrets of Playboy did a deep dive into the dark and unspoken sides of the massive Playboy empire.
While most people have made up their minds about Casey Anthony by now, it seems like Casey Anthony: Where the Truth Lies will be an interesting watch for those who followed the original case and provide a deep dive into the case from all the different angles. True crime continues to be one of the most popular genres out there and that doesn’t look to be slowing down anytime soon.
